2021 Speed Chess Championship Super Swiss

The 2021 Speed Chess Championship Super Swiss is part of the 2021 Speed Chess Championship and one of the 2021 Speed Chess Championship Main Event qualification events.

The event features titled players competing in a 15-round blitz Swiss event, followed by a blitz and bullet knockout tournament with the top 16 players. Running on October 16 and October 17, the event will have a prize fund of $25,000.

2021 Speed Chess Championship Super Swiss Standings

Schedule

  • 15-Round Swiss: October 16 at 10 a.m. PT/19:00 CEST;
  • Top-16 knockout tournament: October 17 at 10 a.m. PT/19:00 CEST.

Format

Swiss Tournament

  • 15-round Swiss tournament;
  • Games will be in the 3|0 time control;
  • Final standings will use standard Chess.com scoring and tiebreak systems;
  • Top 16 players from the Swiss tournament move on to the knockout portion of the event.

Players who are already qualified for the 2021 Speed Chess Championship Main Event can only participate in the Swiss tournament but will not be allowed to participate in the knockout stage. If an invited or qualified player is in the top 16, they will win their respective prize but their place in the knockout tournament will be passed onto the next eligible player in the Swiss standings.

Knockout Tournament

  • The higher-seeded player begins playing White in each round of the match, with colors alternating after that;
  • The round of 16 matches will feature two 5|1 games, two 3|1 games, and five 1|1 games;
  • The quarterfinals and semifinals will feature two 5|1 games, three 3|1 games, and six 1|1 games;
  • The final will feature two 5|1 games, four 3|1 games, and eight 1|1 games;
  • In case there's a tie, a 1|0 bullet tiebreak will take place. The higher-seeded player will play with white pieces first, with colors alternating until a decisive result determines the winner.

Prizes

The event has a prize fund of $25,000. Below you can see how the prize fund will be distributed:

Knockout

  • 1st: $4,000
  • 2nd: $2,500
  • 3rd: $2,000
  • 4th: $1,500
  • 5th-8th: $1,000
  • 9th-16th: $375

Swiss

  • 1st: $2,000
  • 2nd: $1,500
  • 3rd-4th: $1,000
  • 5th-6th: $500
  • 7th-8th: $250

Bonus Prizes

  • Top streamer: $500
  • Top female: $500

How To Play In The Event

If you're a titled player and want to participate, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Live chess page within one hour before the event starts;
  2. Click the "Tournaments" tab to the right;
  3. Click the Speed Chess Championship Super Swiss event;
  4. Click the "Join" button.

Identification Requirements And Fair Play

  • Titled players who still need to verify their title on Chess.com must fill out the form here;
  • All players in the 2021 Speed Chess Championship Super Swiss event must identify themselves with their full legal name on their Chess.com profile before registering for the event;
  • Players must have access to a webcam to participate in the knockout stage;
  • Participants should be prepared to join a Zoom call for proctoring at the arbiter's discretion;
  • Players participating in the knockout tournament must join Zoom with a two-camera setup;
  • All players must abide by all rules and site policies found at Chess.com/agreement and cooperate fully with Chess.com's fair play detection team.
