Registration is open for the 2021 Chess.com Daily Chess Championship, which is set to begin at 12 a.m. Pacific on January 1.

Each year, the Chess.com Daily Chess Championship has set a new record for the largest tournament we've ever held. In 2020, a total of 16,831 players competed.

Here are seven reasons you should sign up:

7. Win $5,000 in prizes.

In 2020, we offered $1,000 in prizes for the first time ever. In 2021, we are quadrupling this prize fund. Everyone has a chance to claim prizes! Prizes are awarded video analyses, blogs, social media posts, and best games. You don't need to be a chess professional to claim these prizes. Just have fun, and share your experience with others!

6. Help us break 20,000 players.

With a massive player pool, one day per move, no vacation time and 12-player sections where only the winner advances, the Chess.com Daily Chess Championship is a thrilling and unique experience shared by thousands of chess players. Be a part of the magic.

5. Make friends on Chess.com.

Like everything, Chess.com is better with friends, but it's not always easy to connect with other chess players in live chess. Daily chess games are a great way to get to know some of the most dedicated and friendly members of the Chess.com community. Strike up a discussion in the game chat and meet players from all around the globe.

4. Play against GMs, IMs, staff and more.

Many notable people on Chess.com play in the daily chess championship. Get the chance to go to-to-toe with them and either beat them... or learn from them!

3. Start the new year off right.

If you are anything like us, you've got some chess-related new year's resolutions. Playing and analyzing more games is a great way to learn. In this tournament, participants will play 22 games against the 11 other players in their section (one with White and one with Black). Review your games and commit to improving your chess in 2021.

2. Brush up on your theory.

Daily chess provides a great opportunity to study your games while you play.  Of course, you can never use engines, but you can set up the position on a real board, reference our opening explorer and consult books. It's a great way to learn.

1. Become the 2021 Daily Chess Champion!

It's going to be a hard road, but one highly skilled player will become the 2021 Daily Chess Champion! Maybe that player will be you...
