Hey, chess lovers! There's another month behind us, and that means another month of projects, large and small, to review! Here's what happened around the site in April 2021...

Web

  • Improved logic is now used to sort chess Events available to watch. We also made some improvements to the format of crosstables, now including the player's federation flag, pre-tournament rating, and performance rating.
  • Events will also now remember your preferred board size (in the game grid).
  • Improved some Bot phrases that didn't make much sense when playing vs the Computer.

Arena Tournament Over

  • Began working on a major revamp of our pages for specific Openings.
  • Improved the Event Over modal for Arenas. (We also made some improvements to the game-over modal in Vs Computer.)
  • In the Library feature, a Collection will now be unpublished if its last game is removed.
  • Made description text easier to read in Lessons.
  • The Endgames training tool made it to beta! Check out the full announcement.

FINALLY!! This tool is what I've been waiting for a looong time. Can't wait till Anastasia's, Arabian, Boden's and ALL those checkmates become trainable.

  • Lots of fixes and improvements to the back-end logic for Stats.
  • Added a list of Events to the side panel on the Chess Today page.
  • Lots more small UI improvements for Events too!
  • Made Analysis settings easier to understand.
  • Last but not least, we added Opening Stats to members' personal Stats pages (now in beta). See what you played and how you perform in each opening that appeared in your games! Check out the full announcement here.
