Hey, chess lovers! We are well into June already, which means it's high time to review last month's developments, as well as the latest numbers from our Fairplay and Support teams. Let's dive into May 2021...

Web

  • Many more UI and functionality improvements were brought to the new Events feature.
  • Now link straight to your new Daily game from the "Game started!.." banner!
  • We updated the code used for our site navigation.
  • Lots of work went into creating a cool new "non-forums" version of the Daily Puzzle feature, which landed early in June!

  • Many pages have been audited and improved with respect to accessibility.
  • We made small improvements to the Global Chat feature - including allowing people to select and copy chat text.
  • Added a simple way to see if your friend is online and challenge them right from their Profile page! (And we added the same button to your Friend list too.)

Online Challenge

  • Usability improvements for the Play page, including better language, helpful tooltips, and no longer bringing your last finished game back up every time you load the page!
  • Worked on a new training feature based on Drills that should be arriving soon. Stay tuned!
  • Added Chess960 support to the Computer Chess Championship!Endgame Trainer
  • Our Endgames training feature was fully released and we've been making small improvements ever since. Have you mastered the checkmate with two bishops yet?!
  • Misclick troubles? We added a new "Drag Pieces Only" option to your move-method settings that might help.
  • Worked on improvements to many of the site's email templates and notifications.
  • Lots of work under the covers to soon support a tablebase in Analysis - which will be great for studying endgames!

iOS

The iOS app released two new versions in May - and with them came some fun new features, tweaks, and fixes!

  • Follow major chess tournaments all over the world with the Events feature!
  • The app will now always remember the last Bot you played.

Good stuff!
