You Won't Believe These Chess.com Records By Our Community Members
Chess.com started 17 years ago, in May 2007—just two years after the first YouTube video was published and the first Reddit thread was created. A lot has changed since then, but one thing remains the same: Chess.com has the most wonderful community on the planet!
To celebrate our 17th birthday, we've compiled a list of our community's most incredible records, with all data collected up until May 9, 2024. After all, you're the reason we're still here after all these years!
- Most Games Played
- Most Friends
- Most Lessons Completed
- Most Followers
- Longest Play Streak
- Most Puzzle Rush Runs
- Most Daily Puzzles solved
- Thank You For Being The Best!
Most Games Played
Let's start with a bang, shall we? If you had to guess who has played the most games on our platform, you might think of someone like GM Hikaru Nakamura, right? After all, he's been around for a while and literally plays chess for a living. He also streams almost every day, playing for hours at a time.
Well, Hikaru has played 54,796 games so far (at the time of writing). So is he person with the most games played on Chess.com? Nope. Not even close.
That record goes to our member @henry14605, who played no less than 436,769 games, or almost eight Hikarus! Even more impressive, @henry14605 played these games between April 8, 2014, and June 18, 2021. That's around 166 games per day!
I bet you can't find this type of dedication and love for the game elsewhere!
Most Friends
Chess is not only about the game but also about the relationships you develop with fellow players. And who on Chess.com has the most friends? Member @Orion74747 holds the record with 61,853 friends on his list. That's enough to fill up Liverpool F.C.'s Anfield stadium, which holds 61,276 spectators—with some of @Orion74747's friends still having to stand in the parking lot.
Yes, chess is mostly an individual sport. But it sure brings people together!
Most Lessons Completed
Some people like to only chill and play chess, while others like learning about this beautiful game. But there's one person on Chess.com who really took learning to the next level! Our members @JosephReidNZ and @cucul8tr have done literally all of the lessons available on our site. That's more than 4,900 completed lessons to their resume!
Most Followers
Who among our more than 150 million members commands the most attention from the community? It should come as no surprise that the member with the most followers is none other than @Hikaru! After all, he is the most popular chess streamer in the world!
But how many people are following him on Chess.com? Well, if we handed out plaques like YouTube, Nakamura would get a golden pawn. @Hikaru currently has 1,198,912 followers on Chess.com.
To put this in perspective, if Nakamura founded a city for his followers in the United States, it would be the ninth most populous in the country, after Dallas, Texas (1,304,379), and before Austin, Texas (961,855).
Would you move to the great chess capital of Nakaville?
Longest Play Streak
As much as we love chess, sometimes we might skip a day or two without even looking at a chessboard. But some members are so dedicated that they play chess every single day, no matter what—even if it means just taking the time to play a single move in a Daily game.
So, who holds the record for the longest playing streak on Chess.com? That would be @Merlin-Pendragon, with a 4,930-day streak (and counting!).
His streak started over 13 years ago, on November 10, 2010. Back then, GM Viswanathan Anand was still the World Champion, and legendary GM Judit Polgar would still play for a few more years before retiring from competitive chess. And what about world championship challenger GM Gukesh Dommaraju? He was only four years old and wouldn't learn to play chess for three more years.
Do you know of anyone more consistent than @Merlin-Pendragon?
Most Puzzle Rush Runs
I love solving puzzles, and Puzzle Rush has a special place in my heart. There's nothing quite like it to improve at blitz, and the thrill of getting close to your record while the clock is ticking down is exhilarating.
As much as I love Puzzle Rush, I don't come even close to our member @MrRio52, who holds the record for most Puzzle Rush attempts. Clocking in at 88,563 runs, @MrRio52 solved more than 1.2 million puzzles correctly.
Among titled players, 2023 Puzzles World Championship finalist FM Dimitrios Ladopoulos has the lead with 56,280 runs. All this practice led Ladopoulos to be one of the best puzzle solvers in the world, with an impressive high score of 60 points in three-minute rushes.
Would you face them in a Puzzle Battle match?
Most Daily Puzzles Solved
This one will blow your mind. Since May 8, 2007, we've been publishing Daily Puzzles to offer our community a daily dose of tactics training. Since then, 16 of our members have logged in every single day to solve every Daily Puzzle we published.
That's more than 17 years of tactics solving. Let that sink in.
The world was a completely different place 17 years ago. Instagram and Twitch were not even born yet. There were no iPads. Even something as universal as Android phones didn't exist, and smartphones, in general, were a rare sight.
Who are these dedicated members? Our Vice President of Chess and Community, Sam Copeland, who was not even working at Chess.com back then, is one of them. Along with him, 15 other members share the record: @Dicomaniaque, @Mvcf, @Ericspapa, @Ioannism7980, @Qa1xh8, @BadAtChessPractice, @NPXtodd, @jakubmuda, @JesperMonsted, @Nelsonkaido, @Bajard, @KingKillingKenny, @Radivibe, @Finsharkotter, and @DustinQDN.
Do you know anyone as committed to keeping up with their daily habits as these members?
