The Queen hasn't been able to move like a knight in modern times - if you've played it that way in-person then you've been making illegal moves outside the rules of chess.
Online chess doesn't let you make illegal moves whereas in person you can play any way you want so long as the other person allows you to (unless you're in a tournament format in which case the tournament arbiters can enforce the rules)
If you've only ever played casually, then you often rely on what the other person says the rules are, and they may not know either. The other common ones are:
Which way does the board go? (The bottom right corner should be white - you see boards set up the wrong way all the time in movies, for example)
Which squares do the king and queen start on? (The queen starts on her colour and the king on the opposite colour - of course, if you've got the board the wrong way around, that's going to mess with this too)
PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THIS FORUM! IT IS SUPER OLD AND I MADE IT WHEN I DIDN'T KNOW THE OFFICIAL RULES!
