A Champion who deserves more...

World Champion, undoubtedly it is the title dreamed of by any athlete, many great geniuses never achieved it, others held glory for a short period of time. However, we will all agree that to achieve such a coveted award, a special mastery is required that allows leading a generation. Without a doubt, when we talk about the tenth World Champion Boris Spassky, we speak of that king whose life circumstance has blinded the minds of many and has reduced us to just remembering the hard blow of his defeat against Robert Fischer.

This article aims to look beyond the "Match of the Century" and appreciate the art that led Boris Spassky to the summit of chess and allowed him to win his title against a strong rival like Tigran Petrosian. Spassky's game surprised even the greatest chess players of all time, identifying his style of play was very complex given his dominance and comfort in more than one facet of the game. That is why he is remembered as a very universal player. It is worth noting that defeating Tigran Petrosian in his best times was so complex that when this happened, it resonated as news for the chess world.
