How to Play for a Win
Dear Chess Friends!
Imagine a situation when you do your best during the chess game, but the position is still equal and you don’t know what you can do to play for a win. Is this situation familiar to you? For me too!
Once in 2019 I was playing in Montenegro in a round-robin tournament, there were 2 rounds left and my task was to score 1.5 points of 2 to achieve 2300 and get a FM title. In a penultimate round I was playing with White pieces against 2168 FIDE Master. I wanted to defeat him and then simply draw the game in the last round with black pieces, because I thought it could be almost impossible to play for a win in the last round and with a pressure like this.
So, I should have won in a penultimate round with White. I prepared the opening, but he deviated in the very beginning making a weak move, however, the position was unfamiliar to me, so I just didn’t know what to do and could hardly come up with a plan.
Did you know that there are some practical strategies which you should follow to play for a win? So, I applied them, and my opponent was defending properly for 40 moves, but at some point, I provoked him to make a mistake, which I could take advantage of.
Do you want to know which strategies I applied? And what about other practical ideas of how to play for a win in approximately equal position? I’m going to reveal it on my next masterclass: “How to Play for a Win”. And I’m glad to invite you there.
Please, watch the recording in case you missed it.
See you at the mastermind!
