How A 13-Year Old Beat A 2600+ GM In 14 Moves
Hello, chess friends!
In today's video, I'll share how a 13-year-old defeated a 2600+ GM (and former World Junior Champion) in just 14 moves!
You'll also get to enjoy the PGN below the video so you can follow along .
This game was played between the current world's youngest GM, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, against the Kazakh GM, Darmen Sadvakasov, in the 2024 World Rapid Teams Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan.
It features a trap that has caught out at least 15 GMs - meaning, you may well get it on the board in your games if you play the Torre or Trompowsky as White!
This is the puzzle position, in case you want to try and figure it out for yourself. White to play!

And here's the PGN with my notes of the game, as promised:
If you enjoyed this content, you might be interested to know that I create a lot more content (like this, but more detailed and targeted) exclusively for my private students in a Discord server.
For instance, this week, I have the following exclusive benefits planned for my private students:
- Parts 2 and 3 of 'How To Play Great Chess'. (You get Part 1 as a bonus if you sign up for a paid 'trial' lesson with me);
- Solution to last week's homework and a new homework assignment;
- Training videos showing how Carlsen defeated his opponents in the World Rapid/Blitz Teams event and how Niemann beat Giri in their recent match;
- Earlier today, I delivered the weekly group 'Workshop'. This one was about playing the 'Saw' structure (with additional bonus material on top of what I covered in the live Workshop).
- There will be another group Workshop session on Sunday on understanding more common pawn structures (IQPs, queenside majority structures, Carlsbad structures, and more coming up in the following weeks).
If this sounds great, email me at [email protected] about setting up private lessons with me. But be quick - I only have a few spaces left and have had several enquiries recently!
I'll see you in 2-3 days here with the next sample of what I'm creating for my private students (in addition to the private lessons).
