Day 8 of solving chess puzzles everyday. The puzzle today involved an underrated chess tactic called Zwischenzug. In other languages, this tactic is also known as "intermezzo" (in Italian) and "in-between move" (in English). It is a tactic in which a player, instead of playing the expected move (commonly a recapture), first interposes another move posing an immediate threat that the opponent must answer, and only then plays the expected move. These tactics are often seen in lines which involve a lot of calculation in them. As part of our CCT model (Checks Captures Threats) calculating the Zwischenzug is extremely important - The next time you think to simply recapture, always look for the Zwischenzug first!

Happy Solving!
