The Four Knights Opening! Easy win for White Pieces

Hello, everyone!

Today, I want to share a line you can play with the White pieces to surprise your opponents. I’ve played it many times and have had the experience of winning the majority of my games with it. I find it easy to play and very effective. Whenever a student asks me for a recommendation to surprise someone against the king’s pawn, I always teach them this line, and it works!

Before continuing, I’d like to tell you how I discovered this line or rather, who taught it to me. It was the International Master Daniel Pulvett, who is not only an expert in openings but also a great friend of mine. He always helps me prepare for my games, and this line is one of the treasures he has shared with me.

So, if you’re looking to improve your repertoire or your game and you speak Spanish, I highly recommend him as a coach. He’s the best!

I remember it was a Monday, and on Saturday, I had an important league game a couple of years ago. I needed to learn something to surprise my opponent with the White pieces, so I wrote to Daniel and said: “I need something to make my opponent cry, but it has to be easy to understand.” He confidently replied, “I’ve got it.” We connected on Zoom, and the rest is history.

That Saturday I won that game, but my opponent played the Scandinavian Defense, haha, so I couldn’t use the Four Knights line I had prepared. However, a few days later, I got the chance to play in another league match, and it was a success.

This is the game. I indeed had a higher rating than my opponent, but I was thrilled with the victory because it was the result of home preparation. It’s always incredibly satisfying to win with something you’ve analyzed beforehand.

Let’s take a look at this game!

If you've made it to this point in the blog post, it means you're enjoying this line! So, let me share with you the analysis of the main options for Black

Here you have the home preparation!

Enjoy it!

Now I have selected some model games that can help you understand a bit more about this line. I am 84 % sure that you can win many games with this line, and it could even become your main opening for White!

I hope you enjoyed learning about the Four Knights opening and that you'll try it in your games! It's been a great friend to me ever since I started using it. 😊

Finally, I'm excited to announce that I'll be starting new group lessons for beginner (0-800) and intermediate (800-1200) players! I'm only creating two groups, so spaces are limited. The groups will be small, with a maximum of 4 students, making it feel more like a semi-private lesson. I'm offering a special price for the first two people to enroll in each group.

Let me know if you're interested, and I'll share all the details with you!

See you around!

Hi

Let me tell you a little bit about my chess background. I started playing chess at the age of 8 because I wanted to defeat my best friend at the time. What can I say? I am super competitive, but I have become a better person now!

So after a lot of chess lessons, I became a provincial and national youth champion. Also, I got second place in the Pan American U-20 Championship (2012) and 10th place in the World Youth Chess Championship (2011), and I earned the FIDE Master title at 15. My peak FIDE rating was 2190.

At the moment, I am not playing OTB that much because I am a full-time chess coach.

Well, let's speak about what the blog is about! I have decided to write some articles about my chess experience, my students' stories, and whatever I can share with you that has to do with chess, basically.

Finally, I hope you like at least a few of them, and I am open to any suggestions! So see you around and make your opponents cry, not your friends! happy
