IM Andrei Macovei (2453) won the 2020 Edition of the Cebanenco Memorial with 6 points, followed in the ranking by GM Vladislav Nevednicy (2531) and GM Viorel Iordăchescu (2589) with 5.5 points each.

The pandemic failed to break the tradition of the Chebanenko Memorial, whose 2020 edition was played as a rapid chess (15 minutes + 10 seconds / move) round-robin tournament, for two days, on May 23 and 24.
Ten top players played uncompromising chess, animated by the memory of Viacheslav Chebanenko, who founded the Moldovan Chess School.
After playing nine extremely tense rounds, the young IM Andrei Macovei (2453) triumphed after a bumpy course, in front of chess titans such as GM Ilia Smirin (2612), GM Sergei Volkov (2570), GM Alexei Fedorov (2529), or GM Dmitry Svetushkin (2515).

Macovei is not a newcomer in Moldovan chess, since he is the reigning national champion at blitz, and 2019 national champion at standard chess.

Below you will find the winner's matches.

Veterans GM Vladislav Nevednicy (2531) and GM Viorel Iordăchescu (2589) occupied the second and third steps of the podium, after scoring with the white pieces in the last round.

Nevednicy overtook Macovei with a little luck, while Iordăchescu missed a superior position in front of Volkov's tough defense.

The matches of the last four rounds were commented in Romanian language live by GM Victor Bologan and WGM Irina Bulmaga.
