We are delighted to announce the results of the World Chess League.Live season!
The podium finishes are as follows:
1st: Chess Club Politika B. They win $3000 USD from Chess.com
2nd: SchachAttack. They win $1200 USD from Chess.com
3rd: Z-House. They win $500 USD from Chess.com
We are very grateful to Chess.com for providing cash prizes and for checking Fair-Play, and they have renewed this structure and support model for the 2022-2023 season!
In addition, those teams that made the play-offs but didn't make the podium will receive 4 tokens each from Soul Sanity: https://soulsanity.org/ for their online classes.
They have been issuing tokens for 'Sportspersonship' over the season, and they have also kindly agreed to continue sponsoring us for next season!
Over the play-off weekend we had nearly a quarter of a million live views, more than double compared to the 2020-2021 season, as well as attracting a record of over 3000 viewers for the semi-finals and the final itself.
This was in part because of the 'Chess TV' time that Chess.com has given us to be on their main channel. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chess Heroes and all the volunteer commentators who have joined us in covering the league so extensively ever since April 2020. I would urge everyone to support their channel, either by following or subscribing here: ChessHeroes - Twitch
You can watch the dramatic final day back here:
Start: Quarter Final, Chess Heroes 1-7 Chess Club Politika B
1 hour 34 minutes in: Semi Final, Chess Club Politika B 4.5-3.5 Z-House
2 hours 50 minutes in: Third place-play off, Z-House 4-4 Better Chess Community.
(Z-House win as they finished higher in the league)
For the final between Chess Club Politika B vs SchachAttack, we had IM and world famous organizer
Malcolm Pein join us, from 3 hours 50 minutes in. He is also involved with Chess & Bridge (see further down).
It was a dramatic match, if you watch from 4 hours 51 minutes you can see how it suddenly swung into Chess Club Politika B's favour, and a few minutes later they sealed it with a thrilling 4.5-3.5 scoreline and their team joined us on stream to celebrate with their captain and manager Miroslav Simonovic.
Their triumph was a remarkable achievement as they have no Grandmasters playing for them under tournament rules, and they finished 6th in the regular season, so had to play more games and couldn't afford any draws against the teams they were playing against in the play-offs (as under tournament rules, teams that finish higher in the league win in the event of a draw).
Well done to them, and for everyone who competed! We will see if they defend their crown in the upcoming 2022-2023 season, as you know the first round of that will be completed on the 11th September this weekend.
If you would like to join, it's not too late! Entry is free, please email [email protected]

Finally, it might be of interest for you to know that this tournament has caught the attention of
IM Danny Rensch, the renowned Chief Officer at Chess.com (amongst other high profile roles in the chess world).
He would like to send his regards and good luck to the competing teams, and he has been delighted to see how the league has progressed and he and his team will keep a close eye over the new season.
I, of course, will do the same. Thank you for your support and for being involved in making this league what it is.
Bring on the new 2022-2023 season!
Best wishes,
Peter Hornsby
