TheSouthShoreChessClub

The South Shore Chess Club is an entirely free social chess club. We are open to all experienced, chess-playing adults living in and around the city of Quincy, MA. Our club's mission is to provide a friendly environment for the promotion of good chess comradery and positive community strength, while encouraging traditional OTB games of chess!

The demonstration of good chess etiquette is strongly encouraged at The South Shore Chess Club but good-natured Blitz chatter/banter is to be expected and enjoyed as well.

The South Shore Chess Club is located within Bethany Congregational Church at 18 Spear Street in Quincy with plenty of local parking available along surrounding streets and at Crane Library's nearby lot. The building is handicapped-accessible and less than a half-mile from the Quincy Center MBTA station.

Gameplay is available every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning January 3rd, 2024. Time is set aside before and after regular gameplay hours for the arrangement and breakdown of all furniture and chess equipment so please consider showing up early or staying afterwards to assist.

All tournament-style chess equipment and refreshments (coffee tea, etc.) are provided free of charge but players are welcome to bring along their favorite chess sets, clocks or a snack to share with the group. And there is plenty of space to support up to 32 players with designated seating for all players beginner through expert. You only need to know how to play chess to participate.

The South Shore Chess Club is made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Bethany Congregational Church and it's Prudential Chair, Mr. Michael Fernald, who voluntarily donated his Church's beautiful and spacious room for the creation and continued support of our club. Please thank Mr. Fernald if you ever get the chance.

The South Shore Chess Club is strictly a no-dues chess club, 100% free to participate.
