I just got back from the 2007 Reno Western States Open, had a fun time, even though I spent most of my time losing my games. I got to watch GMs play, I got to interview GM Larry Evans, and I met a whole bunch of great people. This is my 3rd tournament, but my first really big major tournament, totally different than the smaller ones. If you haven't played in a major tournament, and you have the chance, defiantely go, it's a different world, pretty exciting, and even if you have the worst tournament ever (as I did) you will still have plenty of fun. It's totally worth it.
There is a complete tournament report over at my blog, chessloser.wordpress.com. it's a bit less profane than normal, but still R rated language.
be advised, my "tournament reports" are for entertainment purposes only.
