DNA tests have determined that chess guru Bobby Fischer did not father 9-year-old Filipino girl Jinky Young, two lawyers involved with the case said Tuesday.
The results put an end to paternity claims against Fischer's estate. His remains were exhumed in July to conduct the tests after Fischer died more than two years ago at the age of 64.
Fischer, who was born in America and died in Iceland, left no will, according to the BBC. His estate has been estimated at $2 million.
Jinky's mother, Marilyn, said she and the chess star had a relationship. Both her and Jinky flew to Iceland last year to provide their own DNA samples.
"I can confirm that the result of the DNA report excluded Bobby Fischer from being the father of Jinky Young, and therefore the case has come to a close," said Jinky's lawyer Thordur Bogason.
The battle over Fischer's estate is far from over. His nephews and his long-term girlfriend are still in the running for Fischer's assets. The case is scheduled to be heard in a Reykjavik court next month.
Fischer, who was raised in Brooklyn, became famous after he won the world chess championship against Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union in 1972.
Later, his behavior became unpredictable. He lost his world title in 1975 after refusing to participate in the tournament. He eventually renounced his U.S. citizenship and was taken in by chess-loving Iceland in 2005.
