Anybody have other sources?

Hey TadDude, are they talking about brain stimulating drugs? I am just curious because I'm on pain medication that actually has brain stimulation as one of it's side effects. I am on it for servere joint damage due to radiation treatment for cancer a while back. Of course, I am not worried about being banned from anything but simply curious. Do you know more about the subject since the article was so short? Thanks for the post. Iwasnt sure if it was real or not since I am always the last person to get the joke!!

No drugs involved. The sanction is for refusing to be tested.

Appears to be a legitimate story.

Nearly happened to Ivanchuk recently when he stormed off after a loss and missed a drugs test. I think FIDE were trying to bring chess more in line with the stringent testing regimes seen in athletics and physical sports, perhaps as a way of being included in the Olympics.

The hypocrisy here is overwhelming ! One player gets severe punishment and another walks away with no punishment at all because one is famous and the other isnt ! This is just one of many reasons there is so little respect for fide, its "laws/rules" etc and it also applies to laws in the real world ! They are NOT applied equally to all ! I for one think fide should just give up on chess in the Olympics and do away with the stupid testing completely.

I just wonder who the hell came up with doing out of event tests on amateurs? No matter the sport that seems a bit overdone.

"Hi, you don't know us, but we have to stick a needle in you.", yeah right, wait a sec, I need to fetch my baseballbat.

Since I cant find any news about this on chessbase nor chessvibes I am starting to wonder if this isnt just some gag ? The joke is on us ?

The source website seems to be reasonably reputable, and it's also quite a bizarre and niche topic for a news site to be joking about.

You have a good point but surely such chess news sites as chessbase.com and chessvibes.com would be carrying this as well ?  I find it odd that I cant find this anywhere else. In any event , some Spanish players were punished in the Calvia Olympiad for doing exactly what Ivanchuk did in Dresden and yet nothing happens to Ivanchuk nor his team. Its just a crock and I knew the elites would NOT be held to the same rules/laws/standards as other players.

moderndefense

Chess in the Olympics is stupid.

What's next?

Scrabble in the Olympics?

Yatzee? Poker? Get a life people....

Nobody even watches the Olympics anymore.

If ever there's a semblance of truth here in performance enhancing drugs, I bet medical students preparing for their board exams had this on top of their must-have list!

I fail to understand why world class players r into drugs!!IThey must understand its just a full stop to their career!!
