I don't know if you know this, but, this thread is 6 years old and has been bumped many, many times throughout time.

It has now become a troll thread, as a few of us believe that the OP is trolling.

Indeed it is from Aug 15, 2015

Has TomPetty posted to show he hasn’t done anything drastic?

TomPetty sounds heartbroken.

Take note of individuals that post "attention seeking material" in "General Chess Discussion," as this is chess.com's most viewed forum. Posting in there will get you the most views, say, the most attention in other words.

What you believe is irrelevant and same goes for your conclusion. Of course what OP wrote is not something this site employ's want to see since it is all about money so of course best to call him a troll  or just to say how the topic is old so it should be close. That is utter stupidity. How old some topic is does not matter if what is discussed in it is still relevant.

Even though OP sounds like a pathetic troll OP  that does not matter since what he wrote is true.  Chess is just a waste of time with a huge  bad effect on people health. And the answer to is simple. Stop playing chess.

Hi,

I really hate chess. Sometimes I think Isee improvement andmy rating rise, to just see it fall again. Every stupid blitz loss I take very personal.

Why do I keep on playing chess I don't know. I really hate chess in a way that a heroin user might hate heroin I assume (not sure never been hooked on heroin).

Let me explain this, every day I feel the urge to play blitz chess on the internet (not always on chess.com, other sites too). My typical day is that i feel reasonably happy, feel like playing some blitz chess, lose some stupid games and feel depressed. it's a circle I cannot get out of!

I don't like chess, I am spending too much time on it for rarely any reward, all I get is pain.

Also I don't like the grumpy and hostile person I become, always berating and insulting my opponent, I am otherwise a nice guy, but internet blitz brings the worse in me.

I think I have a Problem.

But there is no help, no help atall for a problem like this, at least on poker sites I think they have lines you can call for addiction, nothing like that for chess.

I hate my life because of chess.

I hope somebody here can help me.

My life is a hell!

LOL

Tom, I don't believe that you are serious.

Repeat ten times a day... like a mantra... "Chess is only a game... Chess is only a game... Chess is only a game... and not more.  Chess is not a reason to turn my Life into Hell".

It's my advice.

Once I accepted that winning about half my games is not too bad I started enjoying it more. I look at losses as free lessons and wins as free lessons that are more fun. You win 4, lose 5, win 4 lose 3 win 5 lose 2... etc. Do some puzzles daily and enjoy the wins and look thru the losses for moves you should have made but didn't. Unless you are planning to make a living at chess it's just a fun game to play.

It's almost impossible to make a living at Chess.

Seems only IMs and GMs can do it.

So I heard.

And I even don't think that it is worth to follow this way unless you are an exra-ordinary Chess player... or unless Chess is the thing you can't live without.

chess is technically not a "waste" of time since we're all on chess.com and most of us have the same problems, he can decide whether he wants to leave and stop playing chess or take a break

I have written the same.

So one should stop to be crazy about his (her) rating on chess.com.

At least I try to stop.

Believe me... My losses frustrate me much too.

Because often I even can't understand why I lose.

It’s because you race against useless things, Coolout. Chill.

Don’t let chess take over your life . Just play and enjoy the game , and stop worrying about your rating points . It’s more important that you enjoy the game !

Psychologists say that there is a specific problem of Internet games addiction in general.

Not only Chess.

Chess is not a bad variant though.

Chess develops brains and it teaches us logical thinking... I believe.

Understanding the Teen Brain
It doesn’t matter how smart teens are or how well they scored on the SAT or ACT. Good judgment isn’t something they can excel in, at least not yet.
The rational part of a teen’s brain isn’t fully developed and won’t be until age 25 or so.
In fact, recent research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part.
In teens' brains, the connections between the emotional part of the brain and the decision-making center are still developing—and not always at the same rate. That’s why when teens have overwhelming emotional input, they can’t explain later what they were thinking. They weren’t thinking as much as they were feeling.
