Nice two tone on the wood , is this design more common in eastern european countries or just Poland ? tongue

Damn. I would love to get a reproduction of the 1935 Warsaw Capablanca simul set as Capa is my wife's favorite chess player, but at C$619 (U$500) it’s too much; and seeing how it’s painted, with the paint on the white pieces not even matching the color of the boxwood, I just don’t think the set is worth getting. Staunton Castle could do this reproduction justice, but I doubt they would go for it.

I also like the knights of the original set much more. I’ve seen a few German and Austrian sets with similar knights. Here is a German set with similarly eccentric knights:

Does anyone know a chess maker who would be willing to do a reproduction of the Warsaw set, perhaps as a commission? Or better yet, does anyone know where/how I might find an original?
