Better plastic set than Fischer?

This is the Fischer set, correct? My wife bought it a while ago, and I noticed it’s heavier than the woodtek set I got her recently, while my objective was to get her a fancier and heavier plastic set…

I’m honestly impressed you can get such a heavy set with a fair amount of detail and pretty subtle mold lines for just C24.28. But now I’m curious, what plastic sets are out there that are heavier and nicer in design?

One set I considered getting was the Algeria set. I really love the knight design, and apparently it’s among the heaviest sets. I just couldn’t justify the obscene shipping cost to get it delivered to Canada. I emailed to ask for a cheaper delivery option that might just take longer, but I never received a response.

What’s your favorite heavy plastic set?

I own the Ultimate (Fischer - V3), the Legend Alegria and Legend Kings Indian. All three sets are excellent - you can't go wrong with any of these.

The set you pictured, asking if it is the Fischer set, looks to be one of the Fischer "inspired" designs - sometimes labeled Reykjavik etc. The "Fischer" set that I assume you're referring to is called the Ultimate Chess Set (about $50 on Amazon, etc.).

He's talking about the Fischer set from House of Staunton. All of the plastic sets at house of staunton end up with loose weights. You won't ever read that in the reviews because they delete any review that isn't 4 or 5 stars. The ultimate V3 are good if you like the looks of them. Amazon has a set from A&A that I really like. Pieces look good, weights are solid. it comes with a nice case and cheap silicone board.

Agreed...that A&A set is a good plastic set. I have to attribute the quality of this set to the HIPS plastic used, which is different from most other plastic sets. Not just looks and weight...but it even 'sounds' better than some other hollow plastic pieces.

It seems to be the Fischer Series by House of Staunton.

Which of the three sets you mentioned is your favorite?

I’m not a fan of the knight design. Are there other sets that use that type of plastic?
