Chessconnect: a free chrome extension for electronic chessboards
Hi. I seem to be having a problem. My Laptop meets all the bluetooth requirements, yet, i can't get it to fully connect. I get either Reconnect (72%) or Reconnect (77%). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the extension. No luck. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Cazbah,
the percentage refers to the charging state of the board's battery. Not the quality of the connection. Sorry for the confusion. If there is a percentage indication, you can be sure that your connection is working.
If anybody has a suggestion on how to make that more clear, I'll be happy to implement it. I am just the developer, all the good ideas come from the community. 😇
Kind regards,
Jörn
P.S.: I changed the subject of this thread since support for Millenium smartboards is just around the corner. Thanks to Millenium for their incredible support!
Ty for the quick replies. I've never seen the board say 'connected'. It's always my board lighting up like the picture, and Reconnect either at 72% or 77%. Never 76, 75, 74, 72..or any other number.
I sent you a PM. It never says "Connected". "Reconnect (xy%)" is what you want to get. Since your LEDs are lit, we can safely say that communication works. Either your board does not recognize the pieces (does it work with the original Chessnut app?) or Chessconnect is confused about the position on chess.com.
Yes, the board does work with the chessnut app. I can play other players on chess.com. But whenever I try to play in a tournament it cancels the tournament I created.
To all Chessnut Pro users out there: From the next version on, Chessconnect will no longer require you to have the control panel on the correct side. As long as the bottom left square ist dark, you will be ready to play.
(I am actually pretty proud of this new feature...😇)

Hi,
Typically, such issues can be resolved by pressing the reset button with a needle.
Good idea. I couldn't find it, when I looked for it before. I'll look again. I figured it had one, just didn't see it. That was my first idea, but didn't see it. Ah, found it. Duh. I will give it a try.
We figured out, why Chessconnect was not working properly for Cazbah: If you have piece animations set to anything quicker than "fast", chess.com will switch to using WebGL and than Chessconnect will no longer be able to parse the DOM tree.
So, if you want to use Chessconnect, you will need to restrict piece animations to fast or slower. I will include a warning message in the release that will pop up if WebGL has been switched on.
Ty Joe for being so patient in trying to find a solution. I'm just shocked at how fast the response time is. It's amazing. Great app !!! Thanks for putting it out. You DA MAN !!!
Wow, Jörn, your support for this is very impressive.
Thank you for what you are doing for the e-board chess community.
Some of you have asked me, if I had a buy-me-a-cofee page. So, I took the liberty of setting one up for Chessconnect. If anybody wants to show their appreciation of my work, you can now do so via this link. I hope this doesn't offend anyone. Chessconnect will always remain a free community project. I promise. It just always feels nice, if one's work is appreciated. 😊

I'm absolutely happy to shout you a coffee (or a tea!) - thanks again for the great software! If you're ever visiting Sydney, please let me know and we can have a game over a hot drink!
BTW, I've just tested the current version of Chessconnect on Microsoft Edge and it works perfectly. It might be good to include it in the Microsoft Extensions store to make it seamless, but, it can be installed directly from Microsoft Edge by directly visiting the Chrome Web Store page (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/dmkkcjpbclkkhbdnjgcciohfbnpoaiam), and adding the extension from the Microsoft Edge prompt at the top of the page.
Thanks to @vitualis and @rsava for the coffee! And thanks to Michael for testing on Edge. I have added the Microsoft Extension store to my todo list. 👍
Today I tried for the first time to use this app (via Edge on MacOS 13.6). The board showed up right away and after about five seconds, disconnected. Since then I hadn't been able to reconnect, no matter what. Tried re-installing the app, restarting/refreshing browser and of course the board itself. Can use it with the Chessnut app still. Any ideas?
I added your two suggestions to my todo list. Which has grown substantially since you released videos about Chessconnect. It's amazing, what the community did come up with. Keep the good ideas coming. It will take me a while to make it all happen, but I will give every suggestion a go.
