How long ago did you place your order? (mine was placed 2 weeks ago)

Just got my shipping notice too. Ordered the day pre-order launched, delivering to Seattle area.

I've read (and watched) a lot of reviews on this board. Today, I pre-ordered a board. I've seen your unboxing video and it was a contributing factor to me finally pulling the switch. Unfortunately, the Chessnut GO won't be delivered to Sweden (where I live) until October. But hey... It's something to look forward to! happy.png

I got my shipping notice today but tracking info has yet to fill in any ETA. In the interest of knowing what to expect in terms of delivery time, has anyone (in the USA) who received a shipping notice received their delivery or get ETA from tracking info?

I received my notification on the 25th of July, and rec'd it on the 31st. I'm in Michigan.

Good news. Was the packaging robust against rough shipping?

It was decent. I did not have any damage, and the box it came in was also undamaged. Inside it was foam padding to protect it.

I got mine well packed as you described, no problems (8 days from shipping announcement to east coast). Upon testing, I found the Bluetooth LE signal generated by the chessnut GO was so weak as to drop 4-6 times during a game. I check it's output via bluetooth scanner and the signal 6" away was -84 dbm, which is super low (similar strength devices were 30-40 meters away). Based on the RSSI value (confirmed on two separate receivers) they estimated the board was about 10 meters away (it was 6 inches away!). I moved to clear areas etc. with the same results. Given this I suspect a transmitter/antenna issue. Has anyone here had any "weak signal" types of effects like unexpected bluetooth disconnects? Even better, has anyone run a bluetooth scanner and got an RSSI level stronger than -72 dbm? Close devices should be -50 (it's a logarithmic scale, so a much stronger signal than -72)

Nope, I have had no issues at all with my Go.

I have used it with my iPhone, an Android tablet, and a Chromebook.

I would like to order a Chessnut Go. Does anyone have experience of ordering from Germany and what does it cost in taxes and shipping?
Thank you Johann

No problem happy.png

Just don't forget to put in the code "BACKTOSCHOOL" upon checkout, that'll drop the price to 145€ and a couple cents.

Johann960

Guter Hinweis, nochmals vielen Dank.

Thank you so much. wink

Something like this comes in handy for storing the pieces (if you like me don't want to have them flying around loose in the net)

I'm in the market for my first electronic chessboard... this seems to be pretty good, but I'm still exploring all the options as I'm totally new to the concept.
My intended use is:

- being able to easily carry it around and play at the pub, in the park, at friends' house, etc.
- being able to play friends in real life and be able to review/analyze games
I'm not sure what else could be the advantage of such a device, as I mostly play online, but when I recently played some friends on a real chessboard in a pub I was missing the possibility to review the match (theoretically of course I could note the moves, but that wouldbe overkill for easy low level games among friends), so that is kind of the main aim I guess.

I'm not sure I'll be interested in using it for online games or bots (the advantage of the screen is you don't have to move the pieces of your opponent... )
So, is it worth it for my needs?
Any alternatives I should consider?
Anything a bit bigger but still portable and good at reasonable price? Or maybe anything cheaper but still worth it?
Thanks

For portability and travel convenience out and about, the Chessnut GO is fantastic. The alternative might be something like the Chessnut Air, but it is substantially heavier and more bulky to carry around. However, this might be fine if you're specifically going out for a planned game of chess.

Can't beat the the Go from a portability standpoint, no problem transporting it on a bike or public transport, people won't even notice. Takes a little more space than a tablet but less than a lot of laptops.

In comparison to larger sets the OTB experience is quite different as smaller size obviously means smaller pieces (5cm King) and a smaller board (23x26cm, smaller than a DIN A4 page). On one hand that means that it demands more fine motor movements to move the pieces, on the other hand it means you still have room for a couple beers and a pizza on your pub table. So if you and your friends are equipped with thick coal miner's sausage fingers - maybe a larger size board would be more appropriate, if nobody minds moving the smaller pieces then go with the Go.
