@AbundanceEd - got one ordered, should be in the end of March shipment. Have not seen the piece recognition, do you have a video link for that?
DGT Pegasus?

It basically means the board knows each piece individually so it knows what type/color it is. The only other eboard that has this is the chessup (which hasn't been released yet it's due in april). The chessup costs 3 times as much (it's $380 on preorder).
It does look good, but again not really working with chess.com
I think chess.com needs to be a bit friendlier and more helpful for these manufacturers?

It does work on chess.com. This shows that and using IOS

@AbundanceEd Please stop hijacking threads to promote chessnutair. You did the same thing in the Millenium E-One thread (message#66). There's already a thread for chessnutair.

I'm not promoting anything I don't work for anybody and have no interest in promoting anything. I just like discussing the different eboards that have been released and like to share information and comparisons. We are all consumers here. But seeing some people get into their feelings apparently such as yourself I think i'll just make my own thread.

It's not about feelings. Your post #324 was clearly in the wrong thread as you are already posting in the "eBoards coming soon" thread promoting the ChessNut board. But you followed it up by posting the above misinformation.
Talking just about eBoards (as opposed to chess computers like the Centaur) all of the DGT boards except for the Pegasus, all of the Millennium boards except for the King Performance and eOne and all of the Certabo boards have full piece recognition.
Also, having piece recognition makes no difference to the speed or "smoothness" of playing a game with an eBoard. It does help when setting up a position for analysis as you can use the board to position the pieces rather than the app or GUI. It can also speed things up if you want to start a game with the black pieces nearest you as the board will detect that and the app/GUI should automatically handle it. And for pawn promotions it can be easier as the board knows which piece you are promoting to (although that is also a disadvantage as it means you can only promote to a piece where you have a spare/captured piece of the correct colour and type). Otherwise, for normal play once the game has started it makes no difference.
I imagine piece recognition means you do not have to press a piece or pawn to a square to have the move registered. If that is true it may make for a more pleasurable experience when using a board.
That's a bit different. There is piece recognition, where something built into the piece allows the board to identify what that piece is when it is placed on the board. The electronics for that is a bit more advanced as the detectors in the board need to do more than just identify that something is there. For example there might be RFID chips on each piece and a separate RFID reader for each square.
Then there is move detection, where the board works out what piece is where based on where they moved from. So the board needs to know the starting position and after that it keeps track of where the pieces are. There are different ways of implementing this. The King Performance uses the technology used in many chess computers, which is basically a "button" in each square, so you need to press down when making a move. But that's the only eBoard I'm aware of that does that. The Pegasus and eOne (and I think the Square Off Pro) can detect a piece without needing any pushing, they just can't identify exactly which piece it is.
How can an e-board be smoother than any other board? Something is fishy in that remark.
Because of automatic piece recognition you can play blitz/bullet on it. By smooth I mean how fast you can move the pieces like if you were playing on a regular board vs someone in person without having to redo moves because the board didn't recognize them. You can play more naturally without having to carefully put pieces on each square just to avoid errors.
Chessnut Air is #1 in game mechanics right now but from what i've seen its going to be toppled by the chessup which looks even smoother. The square off swap also promises blitz/bullet from what I remember so it will be interesting to see if it can topple them.
Good comparison Ed! I got diverted from the SquareOff Swap or Neo because the Pegasus is so much slimmer, and optimized for online.
Re Chessnut vs ChessUp....this sounds fundamental, but I figured I could use it to play against friends & family to make it more of a game instead of a lesson, and improve myself, even with the arcade-like colors (innovative). Also, ChessUp 1 1/2" squares vs Chessnut Air 1 3/8" squares.
It's great to have so many options.
Good morning I got my Pegasus board yesterday - the first impression is very positive, but going further into the details it is not so colorful. I have played a few games at chessdotcom as well as lichessdotorg. Unfortunately, the board "lost" pieces on the board while playing: while waiting for the opponent's move, I got a message on my smartphone that I had to "correct" the pieces ... It was not nice when playing the 10-minute game. I also noticed very fast battery drain. In the next few days I will play a little more and let me know what my impressions are.
Hi @MarekW78 - come join us over in the DGT club:
https://www.chess.com/club/dgt-pegasus-centaur-e-board-users
As for the "lost pieces" - it can happen, especially if you move the pieces to fast. It helps to wait for the lighted circle to register in the destination square. Unfortunately that means fast games are not the best.
As for the battery drain - do you mean while it is not in use or while playing? What kind of drain are you seeing?
Thank you for hints - I will do as you suggest: hope it helps
As for the battery drain- I mean while playing. As I wrote above I had some issues regarding missing pieces, that is why I restarted my board (calibrate) couple of times. I notice that it was very power consumption activities (DGT app indications)
Have you guys looked at the recent Chessnut Air video? It's about half the price of the pegasus and it's faster and smoother than the DGT Pegasus. It has something the pegasus doesn't which is automatic piece recognition (the board knows what piece it has it recognizes them individually) which makes the whole gaming experience much faster.
