My Peggy Sue works great on chess.com on Android.
Will the DGT app support Smart Board?
DGT told me hours ago that their new release is stable (v0.6.6 (build 367, May 19/2022). Release notes here, read entire page:
Download DGT Chess BETA app | Digital Game Technology
Awaiting instructions on exactly how to update/download, etc. Versions are being corrected/updated daily. Will advise when I get more info.
DGT must provide firmware update to DGT Pegasus to improve move recognition. They should fix the SPECIFIC ORDER WHEN EXECUTING A PIECE CAPTURE, where you have to remove first the piece to be captured and replace it with the capturing piece. If you do the reverse where you first lift the capturing piece and remove the piece to be captured and replace it with the capturing piece then the board has high probability to run into problem of not accepting/recognizing the move. This is what I discovered with my DGT Pegasus. While in my DGT Centaur I have no issues regardless of which order the capture is executed. I HOPE DGT WILL FIX THIS ISSUE THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS IT SUCKS IN GAMES DURING TIME TROUBLE WHEN YOU FORGOT TO EXECUTE THE CORRECT ORDER OF PIECE CAPTURE THAT THE PEGASUS WILL SURELY ACCEPT. THE DGT PEGASUS SHOULD RELIABLY RECOGNISE THE PIECE CAPTURE MOVE REGARDLESS OF THE ORDER IT WAS EXECUTED. I hope users of Pegasus will give feedback to DGT.
Anybody know if this is fixed or still an issue? I'm thinking of trying the board out.
I wouldn't expect this to get "fixed". The pieces aren't individually identifiable on this board, so if you quickly replace one with another, it has no idea which piece is still there.
It only takes like 0.1 seconds of both pieces off the board to register. I haven't found this to be a big issue and got used to it very quickly.
I'm using DGT new android app Beta and it seems to be quicker to play, capturing is smoother, and bluetooth connection more reliable/faster (in Lichess so far). Somehow it also makes android chess.com connection issues vanish. I think I sent @CooloutAC an invite to the DGT Board Club...lots of helpful info there.
ALSO, yes it does take a but of rhythm from the user for Peg, but Beta seems much better.
Beta should in genl release in a few weeks.
Differences, yes. Not sure how to describe diff architectures, but P was conceived later than C and meant for online. C is a standalone board with an integrated onboard engine, P totally online. FYI - I try not to swipe pieces when moving, seems to help. New app will be better
I've managed to get into the habit of removing the target/enemy piece prior to stuffing my wood in its place. But when playing on my smart board on lichess today, I took the enemy's queen off the board and stuffed my rook on the square in front of where the queen had been. I couldn't believe it. My opponent had the good grace to offer a draw. Id have been two pieces up, mmmmmmmm. He'd have won on time anyhoo. I was watching a YouToob vid. A luthier had got his rod stuck in a guitar neck. Rivetting!

But the centaur works the same way and I don't have an issue with the centaur. What the person has described is that you must first remove the piece you are going to capture when using the Pegasus. With the centaur you can remove either piece first, it does not matter. So i'm confused now, does the pegasus work just like the centaur or is there a difference?
You can remove either piece first, but you have to have both pieces off the board for 0.1 seconds at the same time before you put down the capturing piece. If you do it very quickly it won't register, and will just act as if you have removed the attacking piece.
Hello
The Pegasus works great with chess dojo.
Yes it would be good to use chess.com and Pegasus to play against the computer and work on openings
See you soon, hoping that the developers of chrss.com think of us, for the subscribers at least; if it's a problem for non-subscribers who can bypass advertising with an eboard I can understand it

A bientôt en espérant que les développeurs de chrss.com pense à nous , pour les abonnés au moins ; si c est un problème pour les non abonnés qui peuvent contourner la publicité avec un eboard je peux le comprendre

Yes I see now sometimes it works. What I don't like though is the fact I only had 1 out of 4 successful games so far. Its extremely worrisome. but I will see how it goes in the future maybe I calibrated it wrong the first 3 times. I don't know.
Whats crazy is the centaur is absolutely flawless. And I mean flawless, you can capture the pieces however you want as fast as you want. It requires no calibration. I don't understand why this board is so different.
I believe (but could be wrong) that the centaur can actually identify each piece individually, rather than just identifying the presence of a piece. I suspect that was a considerably more expensive implementation.
That being said, I have played several successful games without issues on mine. My first few I had some issues getting used to things, but since then I haven't had a lot of issues.

Have you done a hard reset? If I remember correctly, you remove all of the pieces and hold the power button until the light stop flashing. Mine has been great since I reset it. It works great with white pawn and chess.com on Android.
So I recalibrated. but chess.com is still not lighting up my moves properly. It will either show a solid circle light in the square of my piece I'm moving from. And no blinking light on the square I moved to, to show it registered. I have to refer to the board. And sometimes it is showing no lights at all for my moves. But all my opponents moves are lighting properly.
Lichess is working properly for both me and my opponents moves. I also notice on chess.com it is not showing the king check blinking light as it should as well. Which is something new on the pegasus. Is this how it is for everyone else with chess.com app?
That's right. Chess.com works slightly differently to Lichess and the DGT (cr)app. White Prawn is slightly different too. He has the light sequence draw out a lovely pair of breasts when you fire the board up. I hope you find that comforting. I'd like you to know too that in spite of the Peggy Sue woes you might have, I will always love you. ;o)

no the centaur is the same. just identifies a general piece in general from metal on the bottom. You can use any chess piece set and attach metallic stickers underneath.
Interesting. It must just have faster sensors then. Perhaps they either used cheaper sensors or poll them less frequently to save on battery life. Hopefully the latter, so they can offer an option or a firmware update that makes it detect things more consistently.

wait what? breasts? 🤯 lol. is that the best app to use? I'll have to check it out. Good to know that the light sequence depends on the app and nothing is wrong with my board. I think it would be cool though if chess.com app included the blinking light sequence for when king is in check that the dgt app has, which is a nice feature the centaur does not have.
And I notice that on occasion when there is no light for my move, it's when I happen to move it quickly after my opponent. But it still registers so I guess that is fine. Again I don't notice that happening though with the dgt app.
I don't know what you mean by peggy sue woes, but I'm thinking about getting a Lazy Susan to put the board on. so I can quickly spin it around lol.
Peggy Sue is my name for the pegasus. Don't get a lazy Susan. I had one once and she had the house like a pigs sty and she turned out to be an alien from another planet. (oh wait ...) ;o) Seriously, it'll interfere with your board. Unless you can get one with no metal in it. If you're handy an have a router, you could make one with glass marbles. ;O)
Happy chessing! ;o)
I have a lovely router. MMMMmmmmmmm Elu 177e. I'm unable to use it at the Moment though. But the Pegasus is easy to turn. Much easier than the DGT Smartypants board.
Yeah White Pawn is brilliant and free. I've yet to have an unrecognised move with that. I use it with my Smartypants board too.
White Prawn here too. Been brilliant with Peggy Sue and Smartypants boards. I want to have his babies ;o/
