I checked out the whitepawn app but doesn't really seem to offer much more over the dgt app.  Looks like it would be good if I was planning on using the board to play against other players IRL.    This chessdojo app looks very interesting though for practicing.  I might check that one out.

so far I'm really liking board after the inital kinks were worked out with a couple calibrations.  Haven't had an issue with a game since.    Only thing I would recommend is the lighting for my own moves be like the dgt app,  and with the king check lighting.  But definitely not a deal breaker at all.  The sounds on the chess.com app are better then dgt app.

It's more reliable. You can have the clock and the board on the same screen, you can select the bandwidth of opponents rating. Works with a smart board on Lichess. It makes smutty comments when I wear womens under garments to play. It has a low carbon foot print and isn't made from slugs.

Does white pawn show a chatbox though.    with lichess though you can just pull the website up on your tablet or pc and watch it while you are playing.    I haven't tried but can you do that with chess.com?

I still find you have to remove the piece your attacking first though with either app.  Its just too unreliable otherwise which really ruins the feeling of over the board chess.  I know the square off board is the same way from reviews.  It sucks cause the dgt centaur really spoiled me.  I guess the pegasus is so small that you kind of have to remove the piece first anyways most of the time.  but its still a bummer.

No with chess.com - as soon as you do that it disconnects the game you are playing on the board and says something about another window being opened. I guess they haven't figured out how to differentiate between a cheating window and a visual window.

Looking around I don't really see many other alternatives though.  Nothing that is like the centaur for online.  the milleniums and square off certainly aren't.     you got the dgt smartboard,  but reading reviews its not too reliable for online.   Plus the small size of the pegasus makes more sense for my desk. lmao.  even the centaur was slightly too big.

I see this new chessup board.  anyone have experience with that one?  Otherwise Looks like this pegasus is really the only option.

DGT seems to have literally no competition.  lol     I'm watching a video now though of eric rosen and levon aronian playing on the chessup board.  And they are capturing the pieces just as you would over the board.   Looks like a smaller desksize friendly board, and works with chess.com and lichess.  Looks pretty cool actually.   But I don't think it has officially been released yet.

There is also the ChessNut Air.

About the same as the DGT Pegasus, maybe a little smaller. But it has piece recognition so it is a much smoother playing experience. In the initial iteration it was a little quirky.

Can be used with chess.com and Lichess. Can use the phones apps or plug into a computer and use the Windows app (I think there is a Mac app as well but not positive).

They just released a major update to their app, have not had a lot of time to play with it yet, not quite sure how much better it made everything.

I made this 2 months ago. Prices & availability have changed. It's on the club site. Helps with size comparisons. Kinda hate to admit it, but I have a ChessUp on order. I have faith that the lights are not gimmicky, and that I can teach relatives/friends chess without having them guess all the time. I luv full size boards but there's only so much desktop space in anyone's world.

@CooloutAC

On the Android tablet version of White Prawn you get a chat box, so you can whisper sweet nothings to your opponent.

The Smartboard is great online with white Prawn. It's not great with Livechess on a Mac.

Also the voice synthesis is really impressive on white prawn. Better than on the DGT Pie.

Both apps work great for me.

Don't give up on ChessDojo synch. I've had 1 or 2 squares that wouldn't behave at the beginning  and then synched it back into submission. Once you get it right at the outset, it's resistance is futile for the rest of game or it's easily synced into docile perfection. Like training a Labrador Retriever. Synch, Rex, Synch!

Deleted my previous message too soon. Can I use my Pegasus with an iOS device?

HHD3

Chris, short answer is iOS Lichess yes, but chess.com no (yet).  ApplePlay store.

Just invited you to the DGT Board Club, we started 4 months ago as a Pegasus early adopters group. Lots of helpful info there.

These are exciting times with all the new chesscomputers and eboards! I have around 10 old chesscomputers from the 80s. They still work fine but the new eboards and the ability to play online against humans is great. I sold the Pegasus after a few weeks in January because the App was full of flaws and I couldn't finish a game. I also own the Chessnut Air and backed the Chessup and the Square Off Neo. I just can't avoid these little boards :cool . Yesterday I bought the Pegasus again and have to say they improved almost everything. I especially enjoy the White Pawn App and think it is the right move for the boardmanufacturers to let third-partys work with the hardware.

Amusing point.  I am so used to playing online, that I am sometimes missing the bishops on diagonals because I am so used to a "helicopter" view.  Basically I play better online!

I find I make more mistakes on the board too. Is that called parallax error maybe? Just practice I guess. Get out of your helicopter and into your favourite party frock! ;o)

Kevin - we are at the same hopeless standard of chess :-)

so I was playing a match on chess.com.  next thing you know the corner square with the rook lit up.  And it kept saying it wasn't there.  I literally had to hold it down with pressure while playing the other pieces.   I think I saw someone make a video about this issue.  This board is very sketchy.

What did the video say? Have you tried wearing a bra with no underwire in it? ;o)

I've ordered the Pegasus and anxiously await it's arrival.  :-)

Did it arrive? Is yours OK?

Did anybody else get a little disappointed at all the black scuff marks on their white pieces? not great packaging imo.

Yeah. I reached out to them and they sent me replacements... that had the exact same problem

I have to admit I haven't experienced any of the problems here (except the unnatural to me method of capture that is safest, but is the same with the Square Off Pro and the EOne). That said, I gave in and bought a Millennium Exclusive and it is an entirely different, better, world in pretty much every way. So far, at least, I haven't tried online play with it yet.

clothstir

Yeah, the price is painful. But I don't imagine buying any other boards and wish I'd just bought it in the first place rather than the Pegasus, EOne, Certabo, and Square Off!
