Help with an old chess set.

I just purchased this chess set for what I thought was a fair price. It definitely has it's problems, but it has character. I would appreciate any insights into it's age. Thanks.

Amazing find!

Trying to imagine the games played over years and years.

Really impressive!

The leather box looks like it's from the 1800s.

Beautiful Patina.

Leave it as you found it, please

There are some knuckleheads on here that would undo all the history and claim they restored it.

Would carefully examine the leather box for any identification marking.

Super beautiful! Are these the original king's crowns- my hope and belief- or are they both broken in the same way?

They're bound to be broken - notice the dissimilarities. Maybe David could post some more photos so someone might be able to help with identification.

Nice patina! The set looks French to me - looks likr Vincent could be the maker. They provided similar sets which were sold by Jaques as their “cheap” line in the early 1900s.

Could you post some knight pics from the side and all 6 piecrs in a row taken from the front?

Thanks everyone for their input! I really appreciate the help so far.

So, from the responses I have gotten one person said that the leather box appeared to be from the 1800s, and another said that the pieces could have been from the early 1900s. So, am I correct to assume that the box is not original to the set?

Here are some pictures of the leather box with and without the pieces inside.

Thanks again for all of your help with this!

Those hinges are newer than 1800, The box has been repainted on the inside. It doesn't mean the box is newer. broomstuck is probably right about it being 1900s.

Please post pictures of the knights. It will make identification easier.
