For me it's a Chavet. I just have a little doubt about the size.
The knight is approx 67mm height and 34mm base – if that helps? Appreciate your help on this.

Mine measures 65.4mm high and 35.8mm in diameter. And it's the one in the photo.
Please be aware that there may be differences in the sizes of Chavet pieces.
Here an example of sizes measured on size 3 kings.
I repeat, it's a Chavet. The king, the queen, the bishop the rook… are also those of Chavet ;-)
Thanks Walterbiensur. I appreciate your feedback on this. It's nice to know this lovely little set that holds great sentimental value for me has an interesting pedigree. I've been learning a lot of about Chavet sets since coming across this thread.
And here I try to share other questions and answers on the same topic ;-)

Thanks for that link Walter. What a brilliant thread! I read through it all in one sitting. And thanks for sharing the fruits of all of your research and wonderful photos on the Henri Chavet sets. I've owned one since the early 1980s but didn't even know it. Always had a soft spot for that set and now it makes even more sense reading about Chavet's fascinating heritage.
Hi everyone, I was glad to find this thread after I picked up an appealing chess set at a second-hand shop, which turns out to be labelled as Henri Chavet 153/5. Can anyone shed light on when this particular set dates from?
Very nice set that can easily be dated around 1985. Its big brother in size 6, will be used in 1990 at the WCC between Lyon and New York.

Oh fantastic. I'm pleased to be able to put a time period on the set - thanks @Walterbiensur. Didn't see it identified earlier so hope it also helps further flesh out this Chavet guide thread.
@kyltra
How much did you buy it for? Looks super cool with the box.
Pocket change! Will certainly be treating them well - nicest set I expect I'll be playing with and I'm quite fond of its distinctive features. (Need to attend to loose felt on a couple pieces but thankfully all present.)
In the 80s I got my first tournament chess set for Christmas. Have been using them ever since.
I had not the slightest clue that someday these would be collectors items. And that Kasparov would win titles with those pieces. But so it is.
Here's my Chavet, size 94mm, from 1984:
for some reason the black pieces are lacquered in matte black:
Very beautiful set! I was desperate to see a set of this series 6, so thank you for posting it, I love it!
To be very precise, this model is not exactly the one used in 1990. An equivalent set in size 5 was regularly used in Holland, during the Tilburg - Interpolis tournaments (1982 for example), and it was rather Karpov who won with it ;-)
Could you confirm that the knights' mane is quite different on the other side, where two lines are a little longer than the others?
Here which allows you to compare it to the model which will be used in 1990.
What stands out is the joint between the base and the knight's neck, then the length of the mane, and finally, more subtle, the angle of the neck...

Merci that's such a nice set. I do not really understand "I'm not going to make any conclusions for the images that follow, but I imagine we think the same thing." ?
Are they both Chavets with the differing knight styles because the other pieces match. I'll read through the pages to learn.
... ... ...
I am back, wow what a Bible. That's a great thread. So I guess the above pieces are Chavet 253/8 made by the cooperative?
I also learned that one piece knights with glass eyes are also Chavets.
Looks like a size 6 ?
Thanks Walterbiensur. I can confirm the height is 93mm and the base 38mm.
Is it a size 6 that sits on the 7th rank on the photo of yours I re-posted? As my knights do look more similar to that than the images of the Roz knights just posted.
