It has a louder and deeper baritone ring then a chess board that is thinner, and not elevated off the table. With my weighted chess sets....
The board is gorgeous.
It also solves the problem of worrying about anything spilling on it.
Coffee , tea or any liquid would simply spill under the board.

The 1849 Staunton chessmen are the best looking design, all my sets are of this design but with slight variations. I have the Staunton Castle store version's 3.75 and 4.5, both awesome. Also from RCM the 4.5 version
