@MCH818 Wow, that is fantastic! What knubbel extravaganza! Cool pieces. And the colours! Playing black would be my chess equivalent of wine and port, playing white Molle mit Korn happy.png

Well MCH...You were right....If you're not happy with the itty bitty cracks I'll take it....What a beauty! OMG!

chessmaster_diamond

Lovely Knubbel version. I wouldn't worry about that tiny crack in the knight. You'd be hard-pressed to find an alternative sample of that same version. Be happy.

Amazing set @MCH818 . I just LOVE all the detail in these small pieces and the glass eyes! And these delicate pieces were supposed to be used by kids learning the game! Luckily your set was preserved very well.

And about the cracks - for me these imperfections add a bit of character - part of the story of these pieces.

Have you ever seen Willie Nelson's guitar? Not in any kind of reasonable shape, but has made some great music. That Knubbel set is remarkable!

Finally found a vintage Knubbel from Denmark. It has been on my wish list for a long time. I have displayed it on three boards. As a bonus I found a copy of Bent Larsens Best Games 1970 english translation version not far from me. Goes well with the set.

If anyone can tell me how to straighten up the photos that would be great. They were ok when I prepared the post but once I hit Post they ended sideways.

My work around is to make any edit to a photo on my phone and they will load in the right direction. For whatever reason, sometimes unedited photos load sideways? The edit can be as simple as a slight crop —- anything at all - and it works. I don’t think you can straighten them once loaded so you would need to edit the post, delete photos and re-upload.
Great set too. 👍

It is understandable that you promote the products of your employer, but would you be so kind to buy ads at chess.com for that purpose? It is a drag, hayesmills. Thank you

Bamboo58

Thanks for the tip Mark. Photos fixed.

As readers of the forum know, the poster I adressed has made it a daily routine to write some affirmative blah-blah and post a link to one seller's website for some reproduction of the vintage set in question, a travellers set or what else related they have to offer.. Whole threads you can ignore, but if someone spams all over the place..

And, yes: Extremely nice knubbel set-ups! Thank you for sharing, Bamboo58!

Very nice set up  Bamboo58 . Enjoy your set .

The shill/spammer in this thread had his previous account and all posts deleted. It could happen again, but it would likely just lead to whack-a-mole. I don't really see a reason for shilling for CB since it gets plenty of legitimate mentions here gratis.

On topic, I appreciate the pictures of the Bamboo58's fine vintage knubbel set. It helps me appreciate the veracity of the CB repro that I own. (Look, a legitimate, gratis mention.) I also have a Bent Larsen game collection book in my Amazon shopping cart. I like the idea of posing them together.

You’re welcome. 👍

Hi everybody, together with my co-author Klaus Seiersen I have recently written an article titled "The true origin of the 'Knubbel' sets". It is featured in the current November issue of the Chess Collector magazine. You can access the article (and many more) in the new "Articles & Publications" section on my website. Enjoy!

Bamboo58

Enjoyed reading your article. Thanks.

I am delighted to have picked up these plastic Knubbel pieces. They are in great condition and I really like the reverse-colour bases. A wonderful touch. I have no idea when they were manufactured nor where?! I’m not fussed, they are an excellent addition to my collection and of course, if anyone has seen Knubbel pieces with the two-tone bases before - I’d love any further information.

Lovely set Powder, great looking on that board!
