To all the "followers" of this thread - thanks to @lotsoblots and @pawnerai, I bought the Studio Set .
I posted the review in its own thread, here:
Review - World Chess Studio Set
Official FIDE Chess Set
I hate to say it, but this set is starting to grow on me. I like the clean lines and proportions of all of the pieces, save the knight, which looks great full face, but looks like it's ready for the glue factory in profile. I also wish the mfg. would offer it in sheesham.
But stranger than the scrawny knight, is the fact that the proportions of the FIDE Championship chess set are NOT within FIDE's own published equipment standards +/-10% (2015 edition).
As you can see by the design drawing and table below, the bishop, knight, rook and pawn are between 16-19% taller than the spec calls for.
Wouldn't it make sense to design a championship chess set that's within your own specs? Otherwise, why not change to specs to fit the set?
The table below compares the FIDE spec with the actual dimensions of the FIDE Championship Chess Set.
I made a 3D printable version inspired by post #3. https://grabcad.com/library/3d-print-chess-set-1
@jancigoran, sorry I did not see your message here. Every single order I made from World Chess came to Denmark from Germany.
@gust0261, like @chessroboto wrote, they are not publicly available (like many others as well) due to the copyrights and issue with the recreation of them (which, without the agreement would be illegal). I do have plans to 3d scan my FIDE set at some point but only for my personal use in 3D Visualisation (to have a nice element for the interior visualisations). But I will not share the 3D models of it anywhere. I might recreate the World Chess Board as well, for exactly the same reason . Those chess sets and boards can be an eye-catching thing in Arch-Viz...
