Call me crazy but for me this is the greatest chess set of all time! I absolutely must have it! Does anyone know where can I find it? I didnt have any luck so far.

I like it, too. I collect Staunton sets. This one is different, but not TOO different. ChessBaron used to carry the set, but I see they’re “out of stock.” No idea if they’ll get more in, but I have to believe they will.

Speaking of it, they have it available right now and I have already ordered my copy this morning 😁 https://www.chessbaron.com/chess-X2077.htm

Happy for you! 😊 I think I’ll eventually pick one up. Let me know what you think of the set when you’ve used it!

$300! Ouch!

You can also get extra pieces for the set (pawns, queens, rooks, etc.) in case you lose or break any.

True, but I just had to treat myself with this one. I will let you know is it worth it (dont tell me you have never overpaid for something  )

I’m betting the set is worth it, but I’m very curious to know what you think. I like the design. It’s the quality of the craftsmanship I’m more concerned with. Judging from the pictures, the pieces are very well made. Of course, there’s nothing like inspecting and handling them yourself. 😉 $300 is a reasonable price for a high quality set.

Are you sure about that?

Only for stuff I really wanted!

Yes, I contacted the FIDE people directly to ask.

I bought a Fide championship chess set a long time ago but never really used it.

Why? You dont like it in personal or other reason?

It was as much an admission that, yes, I have overpaid, many times, for things that I really wanted. Thankfully, I've rarely been disappointed.

I am truly happy to hear that. My experience is much the same. I guess, if we got what we wanted, it was ultimately worth what we paid. In the end, you can’t take it (money) with you anyway. Lol

I agree with you two.

The sets I like the most, years after buying, are the ones I overpaid for.  My Noj Dubrovnik II sets come to mind.

My philosophy is to buy something that's just a bit more than I can afford, it makes for fewer regrets in the future. The money always seems to take care of itself, and I don't have to kick myself in the arse later on.

Very nice. I've really grown to like the set. It's a rare occurence of modernizing details of the pieces that really is consistent and looks good. Only detail I don't like are the tall pawns, but that's just personal preference. The bishops are great, the crown of the king is well done and special for a standard set. Love the knights from the front. Their profile could be a bit more classical.

It finally arrived! Waiting for it was long but it was wll worth it. Without the doubt - best chess set I have ever seen and owned and in my subjective opinion best chess set ever. Not just design - everything is absolutely perfect! No scratches, no imperfections, just pure simplicity and pure quality. Brilliant packaging and details as well. And on top of it, it comes with extra queens which I wasnt sure about. Money well spend from my perspective! Must have for true chess lovers

I will post few photos later

Sweet! Great looking set! As luck would have it, I have the exact same board sitting on my counter! Haha Thanks for the input. I do believe I’ll be buying this set in the near future. Enjoy it to the fullest, my friend!

I agree. I like the tweaks they’ve made to the more traditional designs. The king’s crown was probably the first thing I noticed. I like all the pieces, really. I don’t have any quibbles worth mentioning.

I agree, the pawns are about 6 mm too tall. Compared to the current set shown below, I would rescale as shown in the second photo below.

AS IS -

null

RESCALED (King, Queen & Rook unchanged. Bishop & Knight shorter, Pawn Short shorter & wider)
