Scid vs Mac 64 bit (Beta)

Sort:

Hello,

Are there any issues with Scid vs Mac, the 64 bit (beta) version in Mac OS (I am running Ventura 13.2 on a Mac Air with M2)?  Does the 32 bit version of Scid vs Mac run on this version of Mac OS.  Any replies would be much appreciated.

Hi Bentley, are you using Scid vs Mac? If so, which version and are you experiencing any issues?

I think i heard a report that it works, but 64 bit (Cocoa) Tcl/Tk is very buggy. Best idea is to run the windows 64 bit version under an emulator imho.

If anyone wants to compile me a RISC DMG , i'll post it at SF.net. You'll probably have to compile tcl and tk yourself with "make -f GNUMakefile" or something.

Hi Steven, thank you for your response, however I'm not very tech savvy so outside of using an emulator and running the windows version I don't have a clue what the rest of it means sad.png.  Just curious if the 64 bit (or 32 bit) version will work under my version of Mac OS. I don't really want to run the Windows version through an emulator.

Modern Macos/Apple no longer support hobby programmers. They are a corporate entity only concerned with supporting their cash cow, the iPhone and selling disposable hardware. Scid relies on Tcl -  an old platform, now run by hobbyists that is not really stable enough on modern platforms.

Because of this, your patform is not supported, sorry.

Hi Steven, once again I thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate your effort in trying to help me in this matter.

Anyhow .. I've just updated the Intel 64 bit ScidvsMac-4.23 tonight, with Tcl/Tk 8.6.13

Perhaps move animation will work better ? It seems to run OK on a Monterey macbook air i recently picked up for testing. Cheers

Cocoa (64bit) Tk doesn't work too bad on the Mac nowadays really. The problem is - and it's not a trivial problem - is that our software is so resource intensive and huge ;>

Hi Steven, Unfortunately I'm not as computer literate as many of the members on this thread - I have no idea what Tcl/Tk is - is there a chance that the 64 bit version might run on the latest Mac OS?

Rob

Probably. But you'll just have to find someone with an M series mac who will compile tcl and scidvspc and send me the DMG.

Inaccurate. You just need an AppleID and then Apple will have to "notarize" it. You can create a free Apple Developer program, or depending of what you want to use you might need then enrol in the paid ones. You should be ok if you do not use any specific macOS services like notifications. I am using SCID vs MAC on M1 Mac mini without any issues.

Good work. In subversion , version has been bumped to 4.25 and we should make a release in a few weeks. You're welcome to send me an M1 dmg.

Samtime sudo command worked but the official 4.25 dmg installation won't open (load the app on click the icon) the app on MacOS Sequoia 15.3 beta. Surprisingly the unsupported 4.25 x64 but unsupported opens as expected.

If you can't get any of the Scid variants to work, I switched from ScidvsMac to HIARCS Chess Explorer Pro and love it. It's not that expensive and works great on my Mac. (This is after 25 years of using Scid and ScidvsMac.)

I have HCE PRO but I find the Database management and Opening report function of the SCID vs MAC much better; another being piece activity tracker in a database.
