Feedback from my coaching services

Gabor Balazs is easily one of the best chess coaches I’ve ever had the honor of working with.  Over my 10 years of chess experience, I’ve had plenty of coaches, and very few are comparable to Gabor.  He has a great style of teaching, and I’m sure that most of his other students appreciate how much time and effort he puts into his lessons.  Over the past five months that I’ve been working with Gabor, he’s helped me to improve both my rating on chess.com and my understanding of chess as a whole.  He’s always seemed really invested in my progress, and always asks me if I have any questions, games to analyze, or if there are any openings that I’ve encountered since our last session that I’d like to review.  While most coaches seem to stick strictly to a lesson plan, Gabor is adaptable and accommodating to whatever his students need.  On top of his great style of teaching, he’s helped me to improve my chess.com rating by almost 400 points at this point, from 1309 all the way up until my current highest rating, 1643.  Even with my rating improving so much over the last 2 months, I’m still winning more games than I’m losing, and hope to reach 1700 within the next week.  Without the captivating and dynamic teaching that I’ve received from Gabor, 1700 seemed like a pipe dream.  If you’re looking for a chess coach for yourself or for anyone you know, I completely recommend Gabor Balazs as a chess coach and as a friend.

My time with Gabor was worth every penny. He is not only patient, funny, and intelligent, but makes you more eager to learn and increases your love for chess. As a beginner I started lessons with Gabor while I was rated 700. After only 5 or 6 lessons I am about to pass the 1000 rated mark. Whenever I play I can hear him in the back of my head saying, “mmmm not so good,” or “very good Eli.” I loved my first few lessons with him so much that I couldn’t resist the temptation to meet with him twice a week. If you're seeking a well-priced teacher who truly cares about you and your love for chess, Gabor is definitely the guy you are looking for!

Thank you very much for your kind words, Eli! happy.png I'm 100% sure that you're going to reach 1000 (and much more than that) soon! happy.png

I have only good experiences with Gábor, he helps me a lot improving in chess. I was able to reach 1600 rating on chess.com in 1.5 years and 2000 games on 5+5 games, starting from 1150 in the beginning. We are practicing strategic gameplans, endgames, openings and some tactics as well. The lessons are always interesting and I always learn a bunch of good ideas from the lessons. I have a much better understanding of the game and I have better long term plans on the board now. I highly recommend Gábor as a coach.

After spending over a year with no improvement to my chess game I began searching for a chess coach. I spent several weeks looking for and trying out new coaches. When I first met Gabor I knew he was the right coach for me. He quickly analyzed my skill level and put together a lesson plan that we have been working on for over a year. I now have an opening repertoire that I confidently use in any game I play. Gabor is always professional and punctual for each lesson. He is very patient when explaining concepts and will often ask “is this clear” before moving on. He is always willing to answer any questions, explore a position or analyze a game that I’ve played.  Since I have been taking lessons  with Gabor my rating has gone from 1330 to 1615. I have even won my first tournament. I highly recommend Gabor as a chess coach based on the improvements he has made in my chess game.

I highly recommend Gabor as a chess coach! After hitting a halt in my personal chess improvement and getting stuck at 1450-1500 for over 2 years. I have now just hit a goal I've had since I first started playing chess, reaching 1600! I have only been having lessons with Gabor for under 2 months and have already seen great improvements in my games. Gabor is a fantastic teacher and always makes sure the information was clear and understood before moving on.

If you're thinking about getting a new chess coach look no further!

Gabor coached me for four sessions on a new line and in the first match I played it, won in 17 moves in about 11 minutes on the clock. What better recommendation could you ask for? Needless to say, I'm delighted.

Gabor is a fantastic coach.  I got interested in chess during covid lockdown but with limited knowledge quickly realised I need help to get better and was lucky to find Gabor.    Zoom sessions are informative and fun - he is brilliant at explaining strategies and tactics in a clear and memorable way and there's so much to learn from analysing  games. In recent weeks I have gained 200 points and even won a few games using motives, tactics and traps learned in the lessons (Légal’s mate!).

Thank you very much for your kind words, Henrietta! happy.png I clearly remember the game ended in the Légal's mate trap! wink.png
