Feedback from my coaching services

I've never written a review before, so this will probably sound just like some rambling.

TLDR: Definitely worth it, especially if you want to learn positional play.

At the start of the lessons, Gabor always asks how you are doing and how your chess is going. Most of the time, we exchange short stories at the beginning and a lot of the time, Gabor talks about funny experiences he's had that is similar to what we were talking about. When I tilt online, he is sympathetic and we complain together about how crushing it feels to just drop 150 points in bullet.

Then if I had played over-the-board tournaments we look at the games together, and many times we puzzle over some moves that stumped me during the game. It feels less like a distant coach and more like a stronger chess friend you would see at a tournament and play some blitz with.

Gabor is very much strategy-centered, so if you're being crushed positionally in your games and can't figure out what happened, Gabor can help with that.

"Hey, How is your chess going? You had an over the board tournament, right?"

"Um, yeah, I did pretty good and I'm 1900 now"

"You are 1900!?"

I felt very proud of myself at that moment, but if it wasn't for Gabor's incessant nagging for me to "slow down and take my time", "slow down, you have plenty of time", ... I would not have gotten where I am now.

Although that suggestion isn't really helping my online chess.

-------------------------

"You know, endgames are pretty annoying. I can play them, but not very well and I don't like them either."

"Ah? is that so? It just so happens that I have some pawn endgames planned!"

"...."

-------------------------

"So, what openings do you play?"

"Well, umm, I used to play the Bird's opening, you know, 1.f4. But I don't really like that so much, so now I play 1.Nc3 and I have around 1300 games with it. I've tried c4 too..."

"What about d4? Have you tried d4?"

"Umm, I don't know, I don't really like d4"

"If you switch to d4, I can help make a repertoire for you. I know you like to play weird things, so instead of playing early move sidelines, you can play a solid opening with d4, and play sidelines for that"

"mmmmmmm... ok, I guess."

I've been taking lessons with Gabor for approximately 3 months now and he has been a phenomenal chess coach. I purchased a single lesson to start off and I immediately noticed his natural ability to explain concepts/theory in an easy and clear way. This, along with the personalized lesson guide he gave me, are what persuaded me to continue my sessions with Gabor. I noticed an immediate improvement in my games and my ability to breakdown and analyze various positions. My chess knowledge has grown exponentially, and I still have so much to learn! Gabor is a very competent chess coach that I highly recommend to anyone, no matter their chess background. I could not be more pleased with my decision! I plan on continuing to learn from Gabor. Thank you, coach!

Gabor is a great coach! He has an infectious enthusiasm for chess and is a great communicator of ideas. He takes time to get to know you and your game and tailors his sessions and focus in sessions accordingly. His sessions are also really enjoyable!

I highly recommend him as a coach to anyone looking to improve their game and achieve a greater understanding of chess.

I've been taking lessons with Gabor the last few months. He possesses all of the qualities of a great instructor. He is knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about teaching. His lessons are well organized and fun. Our game reviews during lessons are invaluable to me, as he really works to understand your thought process in certain positions. His explanations on strategic elements of the game are clear and understandable.

In addition to instructive lessons, Gabor is very responsive if you have any questions outside of your lesson time. He also provides a study plan for you that emphasize areas to focus on.

In short, I would highly recommend Gabor for anyone looking to up their game!

Since starting lessons with Gabor, I have learned to look at chess in a completely different way, and my confidence in my games has improved dramatically. Gabor is an absolute pleasure to work with; he is very well organized and takes your time very seriously. From the moment you start working with Gabor, he is personally invested in your improvement! Gabor has encyclopedic knowledge of all aspects of chess, but he is also excellent at teaching that knowledge in a way that is appropriate and digestible for your level. He has helped me get into a good study pattern by helping me understand what to focus on and prioritize based on areas in which he notices I need the most improvement. Thanks to Gabor's lessons, I recently passed the 1200 rapid rating mark on chess.com, which is a great achievement for me! I have no doubt that I will continue to improve with Gabor's help.

Gabor is a fantastic coach.  I got interested in chess during covid lockdown but with limited knowledge quickly realised I need help to get better and was lucky to find Gabor.    Zoom sessions are informative and fun - he is brilliant at explaining strategies and tactics in a clear and memorable way and there's so much to learn from analysing  games. In recent weeks I have gained 200 points and even won a few games using motives, tactics and traps learned in the lessons (Légal’s mate!).

Progress report after 1 year of lessons every 2 weeks.   Thanks again Gabor for making this a very fulfilling journey.

Gabor is a good coach. :-) He teach from your ideas and make your thinking about chess better. I had him as a coach for 1 1/2 year. He also answers mails between lessons! And he has been a mental coach for me as well. :-) Always interested in my games and results. I just broke 2200 rapid on chess.com just 12 days after breaking 2100. :-) As and 38 who have studied a lot its not easy to get better, but I feel like I have finally got and extra level in me. :-) Hes last advice after some serious training, was just to relax and play, and now I have gain 200 rating point in 14 days, and broke my record on chess.com rapid with nearly 150 points. :-)

I have been taking from Gabor for some time now, and he has been great to take from. He has improved my opening knowledge with top notch yet easily digestible table bases and advice. He has a large amount of material to help you in any part of your game. However, the biggest thing that I think separates Gabor from other coaches is his positional understanding and experience. Since starting lessons with him, I have gone from 1600-1900 rapid in overall strength, and most if has been in positional understanding. It works like magic! With that being said, he is also very knowledgeable about endgames, which has saved me in multiple tournament games. I think Gabor is a very helpful coach for beginners all the way to expert. Highly recommended.
