Dear Chess Friends,

I'm very happy to share an interesting interview about my chess career, best games and advice as a coach: https://www.chess.com/blog/CDRED141/my-interview-with-bgabor91

If you want me as your coach or you have further questions about the interview, don't hesitate to ask me in private! happy.png

I have been taking from Gabor for some time now, and he has been great to take from. He has improved my opening knowledge with top notch yet easily digestible table bases and advice. He has a large amount of material to help you in any part of your game. However, the biggest thing that I think separates Gabor from other coaches is his positional understanding and experience. Since starting lessons with him, I have gone from 1600-1900 rapid in overall strength, and most if has been in positional understanding. It works like magic! With that being said, he is also very knowledgeable about endgames, which has saved me in multiple tournament games. I think Gabor is a very helpful coach for beginners all the way to expert. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your kind words, Tarquin. happy.png Watching your rapid improvement is amazing! Keep it going! happy.png

Estremely overrated coach. Also quite a poor personality. Not recommended.

Dear gosuz,

I don't know who you are, we have never had any conversations, so I guess you don't know me either. That's why I don't really understand why you write these kind of things on my forum and try to ruin my reputation. But it's not a problem, since I have a lot of satisfied students (see the previous comments), everyone will know that you are just a troll. happy.png Good luck with your games! happy.png

Hi

LoLdono

About a year ago for no particular reason I decided that I wanted to play chess. I started by playing and doing puzzles for fun and eventually after realizing that I wasn't improving much I decided that I wanted to get coach. Gabor was referred to me by a family friend and I have never looked back once. Gabor is a phenomenal coach and I love learning from him. Even though I hardly play chess on my own anymore, with the 2 chess lessons I get from Gabor a week I still feel like I am improving a lot (all though I really should be playing more games on my own). The number one quality I look for in a teacher is the ability to keep their students engaged and Gabor does this easily. He's funny and has always managed to keep me interested in chess.

tl;dr Gabor has taught me a lot about chess and his lessons are something I always look forward to!

Gabor is a great teacher!  His feedback on my style of play (mistakes and all) is always positive and helpful.  The level of enthusiasm he has for chess is contagious, I always leave our lessons motivated to improve my game.  I'm lucky to have him as my coach!

Thank you, Nick! It's really kind of you, I'm happy to see that you are satisfied with the lessons. happy.png

I've been getting coaching with Gabor for a few months now, and he's been fantastic. Extremely patient and knowledgable, his feedback is always extremely helpful and he has a really great way of breaking things down into simple principles that I can easily remember and apply to my games.

The biggest proof of his expertise is in my improvements - I went from blundering left and right to fixing my mistakes and hitting 1200 ELO (and 1900+ at puzzles)... next stop, 1500!

It would have taken me a lot longer and been a hell of a lot more frustrating if I hadn't hired Gabor to coach me. He's worth every penny and I always look forward to his lessons.

Thanks Gabor!

Hey Shiv, Thanks for your nice comment! happy.png It was a pleasure working with you and the improvement of your daily rating is amazing, congratulations! happy.png

I've only been with Gabor for 5-7 months and I've received quite a few rating points. From 1100 to 1500. Gabor is really good with teaching endgames and strategy. I definitely have a better understanding of the game!

A little background about me: I started playing chess when I was 12 years old. I peaked at 1908 FIDE OTB, but I was stuck at that ELO and slowly declined. I found myself consistently in the middle of tournament standings, and eventually I stopped playing chess. After 10 years, I took chess seriously again, and my goal was to reach 2000 FIDE. I found Gábor through chess.com.

I really liked the balanced mix of tactical puzzles and positional plays in the homework assignments, mimicking the "real life" chess positions, where I didn't know that I should find a tactic or just a slow improving move. Additionally, after I played an over-the-board game the post-game analyses were constructive, helping me identify areas for improvement.

Upon my return to tournament play after eight months of coaching, I found myself performing really well. I was leading the tournament standings, nearly clinching the top spot (remind you that previously in tournaments I was always in the middle of the pack). During the tournament we were in touch, and against an opponent who played the Morra gambit I got a complete repertoire, and I had a winning position straight from the opening (eventually I botched the endgame) I was playing for two results the whole game thanks to the preparation.

Currently I am on a break because of work and personal reasons, but I am sure that I am going to reach out to Gábor, if I want to continue the chess coaching.

I can only recommend Gábor if you want to improve in chess.

Dear Esha, Thank you for your kind words. happy.png It makes me happy to see your rapid improvement. And this is just the beginning... wink.png

He was my coach for 1.5 years. During that time we worked on openings, midlegames and endgames. All at a very high level. He is an experienced, supportive and successful coach. He also has a great sense of humour.
I also achieved success when he coached. I beat some FMs and several players over 2000 in long games.
I can confidently recommend him to all chess loving people.

I've learned so much from Gabor over a small period of time.

Because of this, I'm able to do a much better job figuring out positions and analysis than I hadn't before taking lessons with him. Explanations were always crystal clear and he genuinely has a passion for chess.

Just as importantly, he's an awesome guy.

I recommended him to a friend and would recommend him to anyone who needs to improve their chess knowledge.

I will add my name to the long list of those who have taken lessons from Gabor and recommend his services.

I have taken many lessons from Gabor so there is a lot I could say but here are the highlights:

  • Gabor does more than just be present at the lesson. He is generous with his time between lessons to answer questions, look at a game, etc.
  • He keeps the student engaged throughout the time between lessons by giving very well-selected homework puzzles (some tactical, some positional).
  • He is versatile. Whether a lesson is spent reviewing games played by the student or going over assigned homework, it is always worthwhile.
  • He is very accommodating with scheduling (even in the face of awkward time zone differences).

Anyone with relevant questions feel free to DM me.

Great Teacher! Competent and friendly. Gave me lots of advice and new insights regarding my played games and how to better think strategically. Also, a very helpful chess learning site is free to use. See you again next year, when I am hopefully already at 1500 happy.png !
