Indeed. Engines can only tell me what moves are the best/most popular. I can't see way into the future more than half of the time, unless it's VC.

Mindhunter08

Exactly.

Sorry. Can't get lessons from anyone who uses the Dark Side. Also, your name seems Russian, and my experience with Russian coaches has been very bad.

Nice way to judge someone. Your name is Bobby, in my experience I can't work with students named bobby as anyone with that name turns out to be a complete waste of oxygen

ignore him. he's a troll.

It costs about $25 an hour.

Mindhunter08

yeah, you get fifth one for free if you book 4 upfront

jackityjackjack

Which makes $20 an hour. Not a bad price.

Mindhunter08

I am still accepting students!

jackityjackjack

Yes, he is.

Teach many beginners? How would a typical lesson work? Let me know. Thanks 🙏

I'd recommend using a genuine picture of yourself if you're looking for students. Nearly all of the coaches on this site do this.

(Of course, if you really are a dead-ringer for Darth Vader then ignore this comment!)

I doubt that's a good idea if you want to stay unanimous

IpswichMatt

I suspect you meant "anonymous". But I don't think staying anonymous will get you very far as a chess coach.

jackityjackjack

He can't really stay anonymous. I know more or less exactly who he is.

Other than being a coach, I am also an active professional OTB player, and by leaving a lot of general information about me (picture, name), other OTB players will find it much easier to prepare against me, and that would give them a lot of unfair advantage. At the beggining of the each free lesson, I first introduce myself to each of my students ( my full name, FIDE profile, Facebook profile, picture...). After we get to know each other, we will discuss about your future chess journey, and start the improvement process.

Just thought I'd chime in here...

Not to long ago, I reached out to Mindhunter08 to chat about chess and lessons. He answered all my questions in depth and explained who he was and what his coaching was all about. It was very quickly clear that I was dealing with someone who is immersed deeply into the game and the current world of competitive chess. I have no doubts in my mind that he will be a GM one day.

So far, I have had one full lesson with him and it was thoughtful and enjoyable with practical application to my chess goals.

He has a very practical and structural way of creating a lesson plan for improvement. I'm a shiftworker who works ungodly hours and he always seems available and eager to answer my many messages. He seems to eat and breathe chess. lol And does this all for a very low price. I'd highly recommend giving lessons with this guy a go, while his rates are still low.

I'll check back in after I've had some more time with him.

Just for anyone who might wonder about the quality of these chess lessons for only $25 per hour:

I reached out to Mindhunter08 a few weeks ago in search of an affordable yet high quality coach, and I reached out to the right person. When we met for my first lesson, which was free, we played a training game together, after which Mindhunter08 got a sense of my playing style and made really good opening recommendations for me. Furthermore, he informed me that if I bought four lessons with him up front, I get a fifth one for no cost, making the deal even sweeter.

After making these recommendations, he offered to create pgn files on ChessBase that would contain everything I would need to know about these openings. The cost of this was the equivalent to purchasing a few online opening courses, so I wasn't sure what to expect, though. When I received, the files, though (and I received them very quickly, just a day after paying for them) I realized this guy wasn't messing around. The files have EVERYTHING I need for the openings I play. Not only does each line go 15-20 moves deep (some longer) but he made sure to include nearly every possible viable move the opponent could play, as well as what to do against it.

Since purchasing these files I've done a few more lessons with this coach, where we dove into key middlegame concepts like weak squares and blockades. He explains things very clearly and, importantly, he creates problems that you attempt to solve, after which he corrects your thought process and steers it in the right direction.

Overall I'm thrilled that I reached out to Mindhunter08, and I plan on continuing to train with him for his affordable pricing and quality lessons.
