Chess Mentor 3.0 vs Online Version

Sort:
rotad

Hello all! Can anybody tell me the differnce between Chess Metor 3.0 (http://www.chessmentor.com/) and the online version found here at Chess.com? Is there any advantage over one from the other? Are there more courses on the online version or vice-versa?

Looking at the chart of the lessons involved with which version you get, the chess mentor here, chess.com, has more lessons available along with new ones being added routinely..

chess mentor online is SOOOO much better.

- WAY more lessons
- detailed reporting
- cheaper to get started
- better interface

I have to agree with Erik.  I have used Chess Mentor from it's early days at least since version 1.5  I own 3.0 Deluxe Edition and I have used it quite a bit.  But the interface here is so much better.

The only way I could ever see the disk version being an advantage is if you are completely content with the courses on the disk and never have to pay any more.  However the Chess Mentor people used to charge $25.00 for additional courses - There are over 40 new courses with many lessons in each course that have been added here beyond the disk edition.  As chess.com brings out a new course nearly each month that would be an additional $300.00 a year if you wanted to keep up with the old system.  Here you pay only $100 a year for diamond membership and get full access to Chess Mentor plus access to video lessons and other features.  - A bargain in my opinion.

The main advantage of the web version of CM is the interface and the number of lessons. Personally, I got addicted very quickly to chess.com's version after giving up 2 times on ChessMentor 3.0.

Erik is right. I have been using the one on here almost daily for three months and I have improved a lot. Chess mentor is a great teacher! I should be a decent player by the end of the year.

Sequential Mode of the present Chess Mentor works. However, Adaptive Mode is frustrating and unsatisfactory.

I prefer the scoring system, Solving Cycle Mode and philosophy of the old Chess Mentor 3.

is there a way to put the interface from online version ==> the soft version  ?

Older version : Garbage interface (expected) but high effort feedback. No subscription required to pay.
Modern version: Polished interface, but destroyed comments on moves made by the original authors and generally worse in terms of content. Subscription needed.
