imma give a serious answer

they are not real women, obviously. nobody's trying to ¨alienate¨ the wannabe community.

thats like me being on the red team in capture the flag, then suddenly identifying myself as the blue team so i can join them. not how it works lmao

‘Capture the flag’ is not the same as a person’s gender identity.

same idea

¨i dont want to be this so im going to try to be that because my feelings matter more¨

No, not the same idea. The only advantage that the blue team would have is that they have more players in their team, so are you saying that trans women shouldn’t be allowed to because there will be more women? Use real arguments : )

No, because trans women are still biologically male. You can't just let Larry Bird or Kobe into the WNBA, because that would make it completely unfair for biological women and make a mockery of fairness.

So, you’re saying men are better than women at chess??

proven fact

No, men are not better than women at chess, it seems like that because men play more chess, because back in the day women weren’t allowed to play chess. Still, even today, woman are discouraged from playing it due to misogynous and prejudiced views.

Then tell me why nearly all of the Top 100 grandmasters are only men. Who is talking down on women playing chess?

Because way, way less women play chess. Only 15% of FIDE ratings are women and that goes way down when we talk about the professional players. The percentage of women playing chess is less than physical sports like soccer, basketball and rugby (and pretty much every major sport). This is partially due to the fact that women don't have many role models. Role models are critical as they show that women can make it to the very top and can support themselves with chess. The best women player of all time is indisputably Judit Polgar but, outside of her, there aren't many other role models for women in chess. Hou Yifan (second highest rated woman ever) recently semi-retired from chess to focus on her career as an economics professor. The huge impact role models play has been shown time and time again in education studies. There's even the famous study using the movie; Queen of Katwe (chess movie) where Ugandan girls who were shown the movie saw a market increase in academic performance at school. Women's tournaments are about supporting a marginalised group in the chess world; giving them an opportunity to meet role models, form friendships/communities of female players and encourage women to play tournaments. Why this shouldn't apply to transgender women also is beyond me.

Biological women have no disadvantage in chess.

heres a potential logic, just putting it out there

one of the main reasons women are discouraged from playing chess (and why womens categories even exist) is because of s*xual harrassment

so maybe trans women might not have gone through that, so fide made this decision

and theres also the issue of people abusing this... maybe

not saying i agree with this logic, just saying it exists

lonniespiel

So the German Chess Federation just laid out their policy after FIDE's ruling.

Trans women have typically experienced quite a lot of harassment in life related to their gender, and are sexually assaulted more often than cis women.
And people abusing it? I've always wondered about the logic. "Hey, I can wear a dress and a wig, and win a women's competition where I wouldn't have won as a man! Yay me!" Why would anyone be proud of winning a competition where they didn't truly feel like they were a candidate? Just because some loophole allows me to compete in a local under-10 tennis competition doesn't mean I want to beat a bunch of kids and be recognized as the best 10yo tennis player in my town.
Nevermind the fact that it's generally the men that are trying to keep trans women out of women's sports - most women don't care or welcome the trans women to their ranks. How about FIDE poll the top hundred (or better yet all) female players and get their feedback?

Imagine someone telling you that 2000 years everything was fine and now people are identifying themselves as animals...

yep, this censorship has been happening more and more recently

This site is beclowning itself. It did not have to publish that news article, much less in such an uneven manner as it did. It seems as if the site cannot face viewpoints with which it does not agree. I don't understand why it couldn't stay neutral and just support chess.

This proposal is ridiculous. It basically says that women can't be as good as men at chess. Men do occupy all the highest spots on the grading table, but that's to be expected statistically because of the much higher number of male players.

This proposal deepens the bad social environment that trans women already have to endure.

There are small differences, but not sufficient to explain the difference in Elo. For that, you need statistical analysis and the result is overwhelming: roughly 8X as many men playing chess gives the Elo difference.

The #1 woman in the world with an active classic rating right now is ranked #347 overall. Please offer some proof that the 346 male players ahead of her are statistically anomalous. Are there 346 times as many male chess players compared to female chess players?

That's not how the stats work. Consider a 100-sized pool consisting of 90*A, and 10*B. Allocate a random number to each member from 1 to 100. What is the probability that the top 3 are all A?

Now multiply this result into a vastly larger sized pool.
