Pioneering Female Chess Champ Sues Netflix over "Queen's Gambit" Slight!!!

In the above photo about Nona . . . well, it certainly looks like Vera Menchik.  But that's alright, all women chess players look alike! (as do the men)

I think it's very unfortunate that the series The Queen's Gambit distorted history in this way.

Of course, though, it probably did so for valid dramatic purposes related to the plot: the protagonist was intended to be a female version of Bobby Fischer. So her uniqueness had to be established in every way possible. The proper solution would have been to replace Nona Gaprindashvilli and other real female chess players by fictional ones.

And, of course, even Vera Menchik played against men. Otherwise there would have been no "Vera Menchik clulb".

     Probably the bit about Gaprindashvilli was meant to show the attitude the chess establishment at the time (and for years after) had toward women chess players.
