I dunno Wether IT was more exciting but you gotta See that there wasn't much Other to do for Entertainment unlike today they Had No TV , Internet and all that. So for Entertainment ( apart from watching the ocassional hanging ( yes that was realy done for Entertainment)) you would Play/ watch Board games
As we can see, in the world-class chess tournaments, most of the games of players with similiar rank (for example: Caruana and Giri) are ending with a draw. This could be caused by:
- new chess openings and new variants,
- the fact that you can check them in chess computers anytime,
- and, in result, that you will better know how to react in different situations on the board.
Back then, for example in 19th century, there was just a group of better players.
And, the chess were more offensive: more sacrifices, attacks etc.
(but there also were more blunders)
What do you think?
