Conquistador, having gone this far I think you should go the final mile and write a book on the Bongcloud. A gap in the openings book market just begging to be filled

Yigor

How about variations of Lil (Baby) Bongcloud 1.e3 e5 2.Ke2 ; Hammerschlag 1.f3 e5 2.Kf2 and Big Hammerschlag 1.f4 d5 2.Kf2 !?

Yigor

p-worry

hic2482w

Ah, here were the ones I have been meaning to post earlier.

L66-1.e3 e5 2.Qe2 Ke7 3.Kd1 Kd6 4.c3 Kc6 5.Kc2 Kb6 6.Kb3-Mirror Bongcloud   NOTE:this version is very tactically sound as the queen on e2 prevents black's king from getting to a6

L41A-1.e3 e5 2.Ke2 Ke7 3.Ke1 Ke6-Magic Mushroom Variation

L67-1.e4 e5 2.Be2 f5 3.Nf3 d6 4.Kf1 Be6 5.g3 Nc6 6.Kg2-Royal Fianchetto Variation

L68-1.e4 e5 2.b3!! Nc6 3.Bb2!-Delayed Hic2482w Variation NOTE:Popularized by yours truly, in the last game here-

Annotations included.

L69-1.f3 g5 2.Kf2 f6 3.Kg3 Kf7-Respublica Populi Democratica Coreae glace lactis

NOTE:This Bongcloud variation was popularized in Rome around 1152. Hence, the translation is literally "North Korean Ice Cream" (from Latin), although it truly means "All Hail Rome as the Capital of the World".

More bongcloud variations to come!

BMBK2

what abt

L70 1. f4 ...2. e3 ...3.g3 ...4. Kf2

would that work? (South Korean Bomb Shelter)???

BMBK2

here i used it in this game (but the guy got discd and timed out)

would i hav won? +any tips on BC strategies?

gorgeous_vulture

Alas, you would have lost in rather short order Laughing:

Conquistador

Nonsense!  If black checkmates he loses the game.

It is all about getting the king to the other side man.  White's king has superior position over black's.  +-

Apologies! Clearly I have not spent enough time at the bong to properly appreciate this opening

hic2482w

A beautiful game I played recently.

The rest to come in another post!

Are ya kidding me?!, White, when you use this opening, means you automatically loses the game. I don't know where the place in hell you'll gonna use this opening when you're White. I strongly recommended that you will NOT use this opening. Strongly recommended!. LOL

Yigor

Okay, I don't have powerful engines but I just analyzed Bongcloud with Sigma at maximal strength and 10 plies. The standard Bongcloud 1.e2 e4 2.Qd2 is estimated at -0.89 for white, almost losing a pawn.Wink The main line is 2...Bc5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. d3 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5 :

Good news! It's estimated at only -0.67 for white.Laughing For me, the main question in Bongcloud is whether white can survive after that terrible blunder or penalty. I recall that in old games Bongcloud appeared sometimes as the penalty on the 2nd move when a player touches accidentally a piece that can not move!

It seems that the answer is positive for Bongcloud fans, white are able to recover slowly.Cool

rigamagician

Here's a game apparently from an actual over-the-board tournament:

rigamagician

And a game where black appears to be playing seriously:
