Creating my own opening?

These are potential traps in the gambit !

Not sure how good this opening is, and I haven't tried it yet in an actual game, it's just something that I was messing around with in the analysis. This game I attached is just an hypothetical case where black does all the best moves according to the computer.

The opening on itself without any possible variation would be 1. d4, d5 2. b4,..., I called it the Gemini Opening (because of the two twin pawns). And the idea is to have this set-up with a3, Nc3, Bb2, and generally queen-side castle (although the example I attached was better with king-side castle). Even so, there are some variations I analysed where it's better to move the dark square bishop out before e3.

Anyways, it's probably a pretty pasive opening and I'm not sure if it has the potential I think it has, so it would be nice to hear some other opinions.

Im afraid, that the chances of you creating a new opening are pretty slim. You may however be able to find some risky variation. That you could call your own.

i did just that lol, i dont know how to create the embed so ill just give the notation, its after the caro kann fantast variation
e4 c6 d4 d5 f3 e5, the point of gambiting the e5 pawn is to get the c5 square for your bishop, after Bc5 and Qb6 you have a dangerous battery, white is till wining of course, and of the 48 master games played white won 50% of the times but ive won 100% of the time so yea cool

Congratulations. You have invented a new opening, which has been played only 250+ times in the past.

good enough for me, who said that the opening you invent has to have not been played before? its been played 48 times in master level games and around 250 times in casual online games as youve said, do you know how small that percentage is compared to the millions of games played, who the hell am i asking your an im of course you know, imo thats a small enough percentage to get the say that i invented it. btw, i call it the bunny gambit. (:

Here is a new system I have created. It involves moving Knights to uncommon squares. White normally gains an advantage.

I made up two openings. The first opening I call the "London Gambit", which isn't that dubious. I also made up a few traps for it. The second one I call the "Evans Gambit Reversed", and its very dubious, but it is pretty easy for black to make a mistake.

The point is that you did not invent it. It has been a known sideline for more than 50 years and have been played thousands of times before. In order to make your own opening variation you probably have to go much deeper than 3 moves if you also want it to be playable.

All of these are different variations on already established systems

I have proof that there is yet room for creativity!

But seriously, the reason I clicked on this post was because I was thinking the exact same thought today.  Really its more like creating a repertoire; i.e. a set of responses based on what the opponent plays.

Its a completely normal part of playing chess to develop this and its a tonne of fun too!

Fun fact: When playing Nb5 after Na3 people will likely use c6 to kick the knight, however, this blocks their own knight, forcing it on the edge or play c5, wasting 2 moves and doing basically nothing.
