DEBATE: What is best opening?

Sort:
jli30c

As White: London, Queens Gamibit, Italian, Scotch, or the Anderssen/Polish. (1.a3, xx 2. b4, xx)

Black: Dutch, Caro, Sicilian(If i feel like it), and the St. George.

currently my repertoire is something like this-

vs. 1. e4 - taimanov sicilian, classical sicilian, four knights sicilian
vs. 1. d4 - QGA, slav
all these are fighting lines, white is pressured to play precisely early on or concede equality..., but the lines are also solid if white plays it right

as white I play either 1. e4 or 1. Nc3. There's alot of overlap between them. And in e4 I have a theoretical line plus an offbeat line. So I can choose based on level of prep which to play.
1. e4 e5 - currently I'm thinking slow italian or vienna game. In the vienna vs Nf6 I'm currently playing g3 or f4, vs. Nc6 I'm playing g3 or Bc4. Mainly f4 if I transposed here from 1. Nc3 Nf6. I generally think g3 is better against e4e5 players. I could also add the four knights spanish at some point but haven't done that yet
1. e4 c5 - vs. d6 the open sicilian, vs. Nc6 the closed sicilian transposition, vs. e6 the westerenin attack or the open sicilian
1. e4 c6 - accelerated panov or tal variation
1. e4 e6 - paulsen french or chigorin french
1. Nc3 d5 - jobava, veresov, or mexican defense
1. Nc3 e5 - napoleon attack or vienna transposition
1. Nc3 c5 - two knights sicilian
1. Nc3 Nf6 - vienna gambit transposition
1. Nc3 Nc6 - vienna transposition, probably the Bc4 line
1. Nc3 c6 - jobava
1. Nc3 e6 - jobava

Really it's just 1. e4 + a jobava. But with this repertoire I could also play 1. d4 with minimal additional effort, though I haven't done that yet. But for example, if after 1... d5 or 1... Nf6 it'll be a jobava / veresov, or some other line I already face like the pirc or paulsen french. But if they play 1... c5 2. e4 cxd4 3. Nf3 is the sicilian morphy gambit, it'll usually transpose w/ the open sicilian. The only notable new lines will be the englund gambit and mikenas defense, both of which are just bad. So it's kind of nice, I should be able to look at the opponents repertoire and choose which move order to use, and it'll all transpose.

I respect your opinion however the budapest gambit hard counters the queen's gambit unless your opponent is very high elo (2200+).

how tf does the budapest counter the QG?

Uraveragecubefacefan

Bongcloud is the best.... worst possible result is draw if black play 2...Ke7

TheJaguarGambit

Caro-Kann is a good choice

Because the most popular outcome of the budapest gambit is white losing their queen and the second most common is white getting mated.

The Budapest is this (I believe):

Quesns gambit is this:

no other opening is called the queens gambit other than 1.d4 d5 2.c4

just playing 1.d4 as white then following it up with 2.c4 does not make it a "queens gambit"
