On other occasions, I get crushed in twenty moves. You win a few, you lose a few...
How do you respond to 1. e4?
I have played too many openings unfortunately. But it seems (maybe!) that I finally (perhaps!) will stick to the French defense. I admire those people who can stick to an opening for life. I play a non winawer French, but chose the classical variation with Be7. I like French because you can play very much on ideas and concepts. Its quite safe and solid and it works well with some defenses to 1.d4, like the nimzo, Dutch or a black setup with an early check on b4 . 1.d4 e6 2.c4 Bb4+ for example.

Have you considered the Nimzo-Dutch? It's not exactly sound, but at our level it should work OK.
I play the Sicilian (1...c5) 80% of the time for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I find the chess very beautiful - white and black develop with asymmetric plans, and there are thousands of paths to go down. Secondly, at the level I play (circa 1500 Daily) most of my opponents don't handle it particularly well as white compared to 1...e5 openings, so by knowing a few principles and key lines I score pretty well with it. The other 20% of the time I play the Caro Kann (1...c6). I like the opening as the positions that arise can be very interesting, and it avoids one of my pet hates in openings as black - trapping the LSB with an early e6 (although as a side note this is normally ok in the Sicilians I play as white often permits an early a6-b5, allowing a fianchetto of the LSB)
Indeed. Any defense you ultimately decide on taking up is possibly losing anyway unless you develop a defensive mindset first and foremost: equalize first, then fish for something. Keep your head on a swivel, your weaknesses at a minimal. Exchanges are definitely encouraged but helpful exchanges are better (ex: always exchange minor pieces and leave rooks when not many pawns are left because it becomes drawish that way). Anyways, best wishes. I would study DKP openings btw.✌🏽

I have played it too ,although I never suceeded to win in such a beautiful way. But the concept with the knight on e4 ,then playing f5 followed by the rooklift is interesting.
There's always this:
While it may seem Black is losing, I have tried this before and as of now, haven't lost with it.

Somebody should and must respond to this.

There is a member who sacks a knight every blitz game out of the opening...I think the rating was 2100-2200.
But yeah I dont play 3 Nf3 ...so that defense wouldnt happen.
I do e5
I used to do Sicilian, but it didn't fit well with me
Well, you are a garbage player, so nobody cares about what you post.

The knight is sacrificed for defense, and I don't always sac the knight, only if they play 4. e5. If they play 4. Nc3 or anything else, I'll play 4... O-O, and if they follow with 5. e5, I will move the knight since that defensive advantage disappears. If you play something else on the fourth move, I'll usually play 4...O-O.
Najdorf.
Because it occasionally gives me games like this one:

It still remains one of the most interesting games I have ever seen.
