Hate to be a buzzkill ThrillerFan but I the O'Kelly Sicilian is 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 a6.

To add to that we have:

39. Sicilian Chameleon System (1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 3. Ne2)

40. Sicilian Pelikan (1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Nb5 d6 7. Bg5 Be6)

and this gives us a nice even number.

2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Bg5 e6 7.f4 Qb6 is the Poisoned Pawn.

7...b5 is the Polugaevsky.

6.Be3 intending f3 and queenside castling is the English Attack.  6...e6 7.g4 leads into the Perenyi.

6.Be2 e5 is the Boleslavsky.

Some people call 6.Bc4 the Fischer variation.

5...Nc6 6.Bg5 is the Richter-Rauzer.

6.Bc4 is the Sozin-Velimirovic.

5...g6 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 is the Yugoslav Dragon.  ...h5 is the Soltis.  ...Rb8 is a Chinese Dragon.

5...e6 6.g4 is the Keres Attack.

Positions where White has pawns at c4 and e4 are called the Maroczy Bind.

In the Big Clamp, white plays d3 g3 Bg2 f4 c3 in some order.

The Sniper is a system where Black plays 1.e4 g6 2...Bg7 3...c5 transposing into a Sicilian.

2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Qxd4 is called the Chekhover.

2.Na3 is getting called the Zvagintsev.

You are still only at 39.

Pelikan and Sveshnikov are the same thing.  Kinda like the Taimanov and the Paulsen - same thing.

ChessPlayinDude47

Is it true that the Ga-Pa (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Qb6) used to be called the Godiva which used to be called the Grivas?

And why is it called the Ga-Pa?  Does it have anything to do with Sylwia Gapa?

whooooooooooooosh

AFAIK the Grivas is 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Qb6 and the GaPa is the related 2...e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 Qb6.

Hey, thanks!  I did a little research just now and found that it's really the Gaw-Paw with the 2...e6, and the Godiva (aka Grivas) with the 2...Nc6.

Ga-Pa, probably a typo for Gaw-Paw???

I can tell you one...The mafia! Lose or its concrete slippers for you...Tongue Out

I think No. 24, the deferred wing gambit is incorrect; I believe it should be:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. b4.

I'm not sure what the listing is above, but 1. e4 c5 2. a3 is called the Mengarini Variation.

I think it's Ga Pa with some sort of Swedish accent on both a's, pronounced "Gao Pao" if I'm remembering right...

SO how the hell does anybody play that opening and keep track of all that?

BigKNOWSmanyHoes

wow you guys are nerds

Stolen_Authenticity

I'll only mention, one 'line'; Since it strikes me as the one, that some 'sharpie' will only 'name' at the very last; If then!?

" 'Kopec' Sicilian"; Entered into, at 'white's discretion; And given 'black's 2nd move 'cooperation'. 1. e4, c5 {2} nf3, d6 {3} c3; Likely followed, by {4} bd3, {5} bc2 & {6} d3.

A 'closed' opening/ 'reversed 'King's Indian' strategy, for white; Without the k-side, fianchetto. {it Does tend to 'throw' more-than-a-few, black players; Off of, their prepared/ intuitive, early-move, game!

Chessputz

I can name several:

1. "Oh no -- not this crap."

2. "Ughh, screw me."

3. "Damn.  This again for the 37th time."

4. "Umm . . . Let me get my Chess Openings Book."

And my personal favorite . . . .

5.  "Well, at least it wasn't 1... d4!"
