Taminov and Paulson aren't the same Paulson is 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nc6 5 Nc3 a6 6 Be2 Qc7 taminov is 6 Nge7
I believe this to be quite inaccurate information. Spellings and moves alike.
For a bit more info, please read GM B. Smith's informative article on the Paulsen Sicilian: https://www.chess.com/article/view/the-history-of-the-sicilian-paulsen.
The Paulsen is just another name for the Kan. The Taimanov is simply 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nc6, while the Kan (aka Paulsen) has as its fourth move for black 4...a6 (instead of the 4...Nc6 of the Taimanov).
This can be confirmed from a variety of sources: Chess.com article by GM Bryan Smith, the book Modern Chess Openings (13th Edition), Wikipedia, chess databases online, etc...
To add to that we have:
39. Sicilian Chameleon System (1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 3. Ne2)
40. Sicilian Pelikan (1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Nb5 d6 7. Bg5 Be6)
and this gives us a nice even number.
You are still only at 39.
Pelikan and Sveshnikov are the same thing. Kinda like the Taimanov and the Paulsen - same thing.
Ah I figured out why. You're correct, the Pelikan and Sveshnikov are essentially the same. What I meant was the Bird Variation which is, from the Pelikan, 7. ...a6 8. Na3 Be6, while the Sveshnikov is 7. ...a6 8. Na3 b5.
