Introducing: The Thrawn Opening

(It basically works against almost anyone with below 650 elo)

TibsClark

I put the opening in to stockfish on lichess, & after the first 15 moves you are -1.5. 1.5 is a significant advantage for the opponent if it’s only been 15 moves. For comparison the bongcloud is -1.4

TibsClark

But both of us are way above 600 elo

AdiSFATM

This is meant to be a complete defense opening with almost no chances of attack for both yourself and the opponent, and since almost all opening moves are already made it makes it extremely effective in 1 minute chess as the opponent has to think about moves and you barely have to think about yours.

AdiSFATM

(My elo is only around 750 and I have only been playing for around 2 years so you can’t really expect the opening to be 100% perfect yet, it will improve over time with updates as I will keep playing with it and improving it.)

Even in one minute, I think you could probably win this because they could be playing something like a bishop fianchetto, which is very easy to play in 1-2 seconds. Then they have an advantage & you have equal time

Tiberius9868

& creating an attack is one of the most fun things you can do in chess in my opinion

AdiSFATM

The Thrawn opening doesn’t require you to instantly move pieces there, therefore you can also prevent 4 move checkmate by protecting the pawn the bishop and queen attack by using your queen, and then move your queen to its right position after a few more moves. Basically as long as eventually most of your pieces are in their places it will go well. I will probably make a whole guide for this opening lol.

AdiSFATM

Thrawn opening is just made for effortless increase in 1 minute elo and absolute defense strategy instead of fun tbh

Tiberius9868

There are better systems, like the reti kings fienchetto, the london, or the KID which give an equal position while still being simple

AdiSFATM

This opening not being simple is actually an ADVANTAGE as you KNOW your every move in EVERY match. You just have to get used to the opening and you will almost never run out of time anymore. Your opponent will still have to think a lot, you won’t.

Tiberius9868

most people I play against will have played enough games to not spend over 40 seconds in the opening, even in confusing positions. You will have around a 20 second time advantage while being lost positionally

Tiberius9868

Tiberius9868

to show how significant -1.5 is, I will show you that I win 89% of my rapid games when I am +1.5 at some point

AdiSFATM

This opening allows you to already know more than 10 of your first moves. The opponent will probably have to start thinking after the 3rd or 4th.

Tiberius9868

& the ruy lopez gives white an advantage & after 20 mins of studying you can also know your first ten moves

Tiberius9868

The knight is a loose piece as well, making c3 another weakness in case of Bg7

SwordofSouls2023

All right, you are saying the move order is e4 and then e3 and then c4 and then so forth

What about 1. e4 e5 2. d3 d5

Now what?

You're cooked

Tiberius9868

exactly

Tiberius9868

If they play normally & complete development like a normal person, within the first ten moves you have a significant disadvantage
