He has grown on me allot over the course of watching his videos. He is a sarcastic twat, just like me. But he understands chess 2.7 more than me.
Is Ben Finegold as big a jerk as he seems in his videos?
He's a Dufus brand refrigerator that's filled with limes & durian & some double-coated honey walnuts.
I'm gonna go have some now.
Nah, he is the good guy in da book. It will be a best seller, if I don't get killed obviously. Have a good read.
Yes, Ben is a complete jerk. When he annotated our games from the St. Louis Chess Club, he's just an a-hole. In person, he's a jerk and his son is an even bigger jerk.
Yasser Seirawan and MatoJelic were my gateway to chess videos on YouTube. When I started watching the lessons by Mr. Finegold (excuse me, Grandmaster Finegold), I was turned off by his smug attitude, and his remarks to people off-camera.
But now that I get all the inside jokes, Finegold is probably my favorite chess instructor ever. Sometimes it just takes some tough love to get the job done, and you can guarantee I'm not falling asleep during his class. My love for chess has increased since watching his videos -- mission accomplished, IMO.
Now I play Kb1 and Bf1 in every game and I never lose
does it? If Ben Finegold a public figure or a chess.com member?
Ben Finegold WAS a Chess.com member. I see his account is closed. Why would he want to hang around a site when he is taking this kind of abuse? It's too bad. I liked his videos. No one at Chess.com should have to take these kinds of personal attacks.
I don't know, but I like his videos and he is a big Paul Morphy fan like me. When I hear him joking, it just doesn't seem malicious, if that makes sense. But who knows, maybe he is being insulting, but my radar doesn't pick it up much.
Ben Finegold is just one of many teachers available on YouTube. If you don't like him just go onto the next one!
Does anyone know why his account was restricted? I used to like the videos he made for chess.com but now that he's gone, it's just suspicious.
ben finegold makes a lot of money from chess and is a rich man
that is why he can waste time making free youtube chess videos all day

You think all those videos he makes for the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis are done free-of-charge on his part?
I was following his own youtube channel for a bit and I remember a bit of dissatisfaction expressed. He mentioned something about some negative comments with something along the lines of "you guys are aware I'm doing this for free and I don't have to be doing it?" I would guess that might be similar with him stopping other things that were gifts.

Hm, never knew he had his own YouTube channel. Only saw his CCSCSTL stuff.
Nope he is not a jerk
because wikipedia does not say he is one

I guarantee you Finegold is not traveling from his home (in Michigan, I believe) to St. Louis to hang out at the CCSCSTL for extended periods of time, do commentaries there, give lectures that are recorded and put on YouTube just for the fun of it. He's getting paid to do so, as is every other grandmaster who works with the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis.
