Marshall Gambit in Ruy Lopez

I wanted to know if someone would like to take the Black side of the Marshall Gambit in the Ruy Lopez to test versus me

.  You hardly have to be an expert at it, largely because here is the move order...

is that your match or somethin?>

No, that's the Marshall Gambit line.  The game only really starts after this series ends.

Any thoughts?

Ruy lopez, uhg, i can't believe anyone would memorize that far in advance. The lines I study rarely do anything I need to remember after move 14.

It flows incredibly easy together.  The only move you have to know is the ...d5!  After that its about generating a strong Kingside attack

I'm adopting the 11...Nf6 line to skip the many theory with ...c6. There are many other stronger alternatives but I have a fondness with Frank's original continuation. It has many refuted lines but the moves which was supposed to refute ...Nf6 are really strong moves and really hard to find. It would also be a catastrophe if someone facing 11...Nc6 were ignorant of the 1918 Capa - Marshall game in New York. It's also a very nice surprise in tournament play.

Edit: I have a few Marshall books but I recommend Bogdan Lalic's book the most. I think it's the best one currently available and most are important games covered to year 2000 something.

There are other variations.  I remember a Marshall in Kramnik vs. Leko where that was not the line played.

The bulk of theory is about the anti-Marshall (as early as move eight) and the main line Marshall with 11...c6. Then those looking for rather profound alternatives can look at other lines like the Steiner etc. Anand has been known to prepare drawing lines in the Marshall for Black and it's worth keeping it in your file or database. Spassky has been playing it with success against Tal but it's hard to keep up with theory as players seem to come up with something fashionable almost every week. Thus I only bother to study 11...Nf6 lines since the plan is pretty straight forward...
