Should I play with the Bertin Gambit?
The kings gambit is probably a second tier opening as black has several ways to equalize without too much problems.Having said that, it is an opening that will serve you well at least until ~2000 FIDE The opening is not terrible and in the complex positions experience helps a ton
The Bertin gambit (i had to look it up) seems to be a side variations from a relatively rare Kings Gambit Accepted variation. This means you will get it on the board very rarely. Black seems to get a small advantage with good play but has many opportunities to go astray. That does not seem like a good basis for an opening choice. Stick with Kings gambit mainlines if you want to play it.
Personally I would not touch the variation with a 3 meter stick from either side.
I am used to the Bertin Gambit being known as the Three Pawns Gambit variation of the Cunningham Gambit. I am not sure how this line morphed into being called the Bertin: historically the whole 3..., Be7 line was the Cunningham (or Bertin) Gambit. Should you play it as White? Well. I have bamboozled a few people playing it because the theory is not well-known. But I would advise against playing it competitively if you do not own and have not studied both Wendell Lutes's collation of Cunningham Gambit analyses (Chess Enterpises, 1990) and Colin Leach's "KGA: Becker, Fischer, and Cunningham Defences" (Caissa Books, 1990) also a collation of analyses. I have managed to bamboozle a few opponents with this line because I knew more than they did about the patterns and theory. I read both obsessively when they were new. To be honest, I was the sort of teenager who "should have got out more" and wasted his time trying to make things like this work. They don't really seem likely to work if your opponent is clued up. But if you want to have some fun with nineteenth-century mad hackery and don't mind the occasional defeat by an opponent who knows what they're doing then have at it and good luck. Whatever brings you joy in your chess is ipso facto right for you.
I have never heard of Bertin Gambit.
I had to search it up.
To save others from wasting time searching up the line, I will make chess diagram.
The above is the starting position.
I filtered a Database with only Master Games.
Title Players seem to play Kf1.
The below position is named Kings Gambit Accepted: Cunningham Defense.
When white plays g3, The line changes name to Bertin.
When white plays Kf1, The line stays as Cunningham

As a chess player that literally knows nothing about this chess opening, I have come up with an answer!
My answer to you Xarftone is GO FOR IT and if by a miracle you are able to get into this chess position playing other players rated 400.
You should instantly post it to this thread so people can call you a Chess God!
It would be a Chess accomplishment in itself if your able to do it.
‘Do you know what I think is going to happen?
Your going to try to get into Bertin Gambit and your opponent is going to do something crazy like trade off your Bishop. An your never going to see that position.
If you could find a way to get into it though, What a legend you would be.
400 Rated Chess players playing Chess Theory 6 moves deep!
What a Freaking Legend you would be!
I can’t even get a 400 rated player to play a Italian Game.
It’s literally 3 moves and they can’t do it.
And your going to go 6 moves? What a beast!

I know nothing about these lines, but I know your think you can get into them vs. 400 rated players. And that’s all I need to know to give you thumbs up!
